Long Island Radio Dial is back!

Welcome back. I work near where the transmitter for 89.5 W208AU & can verify that signal has not broadcast in several years. I believe the company that broadcast the Asian/Indian format went bankrupt. After the programming ended the signal carried dead air 24/7 for about 6 months then finally someone turned it off. I can now receive WPKN from Bridgeport CT clearly while driving on Sunrise Hwy in Massapequa. As far as 100.9 I can pick up that signal near my home in Brookhaven. Sometimes it's off, sometimes it's on playing a loop of gospel/religious music. A few corrections: WLIX-LP 94.7 is no longer part of WLIX "the voice of hope" they are broadcasting a loop telling listeners to tune to 107.1 for "the voice of hope" & that a new local religious station is coming soon. Also 1580 WLIM hasn't been “Radio Formula 1580″ for a few years now. They are now "Radio Adoni" & here's their website: http://www.ministeriodiosestaaqui.com/index2.php

Also here are a few other Long Island based online stations.

Thanks for that. I picked up 1580 on my car radio all the way up in Bristol, Connecticut a couple weeks ago. I heard them say they were "Radio Adoni", but I was unsure how to spell it. I wanted to Google it. Also isn't it strange they do a dual Legal ID one in English and one in Spanish?

That's right, I've brought back the Long Island Radio Dial!

You make mention of WNPR 89.1 Norwich, CT. WNPR in Norwich has been WPKT for a few months now, swapping call letters with sister station 90.5 FM in Meriden, CT, which was WPKT. Even though WPKT 90.5 has always been the flagship of Connecticut Public Radio, they always used the call letters of their Norwich station in their on-air branding "WNPR - Connecticut Public Radio". After 30 years they swapped the calls.

Thanks, all! It's been a few years since I had the dial up. I was working with some old files that were on my PC.

Oh, and after a bit of Googling I found the correct spelling of "Radio Adonai" for AM 1580.

89.5 W208AU, Massapequa ???
I was raised in Massapequa. Graduated Plainedge High School. Never knew Massapequa had a radio station.

It was very short lived. It had Indian/South Asian programming, then up and died. The station is no longer on the air.

Thanks Dr C. Living out west now, but always enjoy updates from home, especially on my favorite subject, RADIO. Used to glue my ears to the radio listening to the old WGBB, back when they promoted themselves as "The All New WGBB!" In reality, they were not a new station at all, but were pushing a new format, TOP 40.
