long lasting personalities

Absolutely pitiful. That is all that can be said. It is embarrassing. Two guys that GST introduces to the city get fired. Then, because no reputable station will hire them 'today' in any capacity, they decide to go to a station that nobody on this board listens to or most likely never even heard of. In radio you are hired to be fired. That is a fact. Nobody is immune. But to go to the bottom of the food chain station, a real bottom feeder, is so dumbfounding. That is how the pd's will sum you up, your last gig. Patience and perseverance is a quality of successful long lasting personalities. The actions of these guys is humiliating. Then, the people on this board, tell them great, can't wait. We will listen. Get real. Nobody listens. Give good advice. Do not encourage them to go off into radio oblivion and commit professional suicide. WGST has introduced you to the city. Wait, be patient, the tide will turn.

Let me put in simple terms so you can understand. I am gainfully employed in radio. Have been for many years. I have had ups and I have had downs. I've Been fired 3 times in the early years. Currently I have had this job for a few years. Going to a bottom feeder station changes your status in a city. Changes your pay grade. Pd's have a good laugh about it when it becomes public. Image is an important matter. These boys are known and respected. Why change the perception? PD's change frequently. These men need to move laterally or upward, not down.

If you want to stay in Atlanta....where else CAN you go?
1160 may become a viable station....stranger things have happened! And with most of the old WGST weekend gang getting on board the station has an opportunity for some real growth.
The guy who runs 1160 is Jeff Davis. He was one of the top billing sales guys in Atlanta radio before he became 1160 GM. Is he a "loser" too? Another "bottom feeder?"
You may need to suck up to Jeff for a gig at 1160 some day. Better watch your words!(Where is your mega "afternoon" gig anyway?)
Good luck to all the ex GST folks....wherever you may land!!

I have never used the word "loser" did I? I said that these guys are respected. You, by your handle, imply that you may be an engineer. Is that correct? That means you can't relate to what I am talking about. You also said "Good luck to all the ex GST folks....wherever you may land!!". This is not a landing, it is a crash and burn. I am just giving tough love in an expertise that my background allows. You could give an expertise in changing a fuse. I think I may be a little my qualified in this area.

Working in local radio is a little like gambling in Vegas. You never know how good "good" is until you're down. And the odds always favor the house. I think the number of music jocks in this town who have more leverage than the PD are fewer than 7 and most of them work for V103. The rest are folks like AJ Cannon, Art Mehring, Mitch Evans, Sandy Weaver, Willard, Chuck Oliver and many others -- perfectly capable, perfectly industrious...and perfectly expendable. If you cant break through the white noise, you'd be much more secure in sales. Seriously.

I know a guy that did weekend cut-ins for 680 and was let go. His comment: "I worked hard, put in extra hours and got along with everybody. How did this happen?" I didnt know whether to hug him or slap him.

You gotta find a way to get on the other side of the desk if you want security in on-air radio. Jeff Davis is an excellent example. So is Steve Mitchell.

I could see your point if their previous job had been at WSB. But in its' current state, WGST is about as close to "bottom feeder" status as you can get

Business Radio has never been a ratings winner in any market. When it tried to be, it ended up losing tons of money and driving its owners to the brink of suicide (see WBIX). It exists solely to broker time blocks to stockbrokers and sellers of trading software. Draw your own conclusions about the kind of station 1160 is from that. It would have been more competitive had they just moved Air America over there! But of course judging from Joe Weber's rants on his afternoon "I play what I want cuz I own the station" show, politics played a role there.

Now whats wrong with this picture? I know if I had the money it would be the same answer!
I dont see anything wrong with Joe Weber doing as he wishes, as long as the public is served!  Air America was not a big ratings draw in the City of Atlanta. Cities like Decatur
Avondale, this was a perfect format. But in that case thats still not enough listeners to
devote a whole frequency to. It was proven, look how long the format lasted. I will only add that keeping Al Franken, is Frankly Stupid. Franken makes the Democratic Party look stupid
and Foolish. If you really wanted to enrage and compete with the likes of Sean Hannity,
Neal Boortz, then put on Randi Rhodes. She was full of fire, and didnt hold her tongue so to speak. Im not a democrat, but if I was-I would program a station to the hilt with real Democrat talkers and local programmming.. Folks have said other things about WGKA being a relay station and I agree strongly. I like that station but it seems that for some reason station owners bring in Network Syndicated Shows. I dont believe that holds a listeners attention like WSB. I also am not of the belief that WSB is holding all of the cards either. Thier format is Boring and Flat. I really like the other stations that are Smaller, If only we could get management to listen!
I would format a station like Air America, because I think that with the right hosts,
and a crack sales dept you could have a station that could compete with the likes of Were So Boring. Not a crack so much towards Wizbee, but would it not be cool to have a station that could actually cut into the ratings of the Giant in Atlanta?
