Long-time reporter, Joe Courson, dies at 62

I worked with Joe over at channel 10 in the early 90's. Top notch guy. I believe it was his Ikegami 730A camera I had to clean out after he dropped it in the water while doing a story in the Okefenokee. :p

I knew Joe for a long time. We ran many of his stories on THE MONITOR TV program over the years. He also was a great help to me in finding stories and assisting in any way he could at The Sunbelt Ag Expo each year. He will certainly be missed.

My first Sunbelt Expo with channel 10 made me wonder if I made the right decision getting into TV in the first place. Anything that could go wrong that first day, did. Down to locking the keys in the remote truck!

At least you got it all out of the way the first time....

The best part was being asked to go up in a Cessna 172 so one of our photographers could get some aerial shots of Spence Field. I was to sit in the back with the video deck (back before camcorders). I was cool with it until the pilot came and took the right side door off!

That would scare the bejuzus out of me, but I would do it in a heartbeat!

I was kinda wedged in the back with the Sony 8800 and the photog had already gotten situated with the camera so there wasn't any getting out until we landed. But it was fun and prompted me to get my pilots license.
