Long Wave DX - anyone here do it?

I think that 252 is now operated by RTE. Were you able to get Radio 10 Gold from the NL? They throw a pretty good signal into the southern UK.

Been to London lately? There's lots of demand for people who can teach English now. Strange as it may seem, there are now places in England where English is a second language! ::)

Methinks the brits think our accent kind of odd as well, ole chap!

By the way, has anyone tried to hear any of the LW broadcasters lately, especially on 162, 198 and 252?
(There are intervals of quiet even at this time of year, don't assume there are static crashes every night
on LW) And what about that odd sounding signal on 454 - has anyone heard it lately?

Can't confirm that 252 was indeed RTE....I didn't listen long enough.  But based on what I heard, that's highly likely.  The signal, for some reason seemed seemed weaker than when it was a commercial rocker.

I did try for Radio 10 gold.  No success.  Where I was, there was considerable splatter from 1035 (ethnic) and 1089 (sports).  The two of these each wiped out 2-3 adjacent co-channels

And yes, teaching English in the UK is a very good gig.  My daughter's main day job is teaching university-level American business English.  She also does planning and administrative work and private tutors non-English speaking businesspeople who need to get up to speed in a hurry. 

The beginnings of all that can probably be traced to when she was in high school, and I gave her an old Sangean multi-band portable.  She wasn't interested in DX, but liked listening to foreign language broadcasts. She's subsequently been multi-lingual for about fifteen years (especially fluent in French).  Her bf, incidentally, also has an interesting job....He's an editor for the Guinness Book of World Records!

Signal on 162 was modest. 198 basically a local. 252 fair at best. My receiver (YB400) couldn't tune 454.

I'll put it to you this way. Daughter reports that the Guinness group is a fun bunch to party with....even though they're now separate from the brewery.
