Longest continuously running morning shows in SC?

That depends on the criteria. In Columbia, Jonathan Rush has been on continuously for twenty years, but recently they moved him to another signal. Still, he's been on continuously. But, he has had a bunch of co-hosts, so it has not been the exact same lineup. Also, in Columbia, Good Morning Columbia has been on WISW for many years, but Gene McKay passed away. But Benton and Enlow are still there, and they only had a couple month break between the old Q100 and their current gig. They've been on at least twenty years between those two.

More Columbia, I heard Brent & George say the other morning they had been on for eighteen years on B106. And Charlie James has been on continuously for probably seven or eight years. But like Jonathan, he has moved to another signal. Teddy Heffner has been on WCOS-Am for probably close to ten years. Not sure all of that was in the morning. And of course, Woody Windham is still on. But in Columbia only continuously for probably five or six years I think.

In Greenville, Love continued on without Hudson on My 102. Does that count? If so, he has been on for well over twenty years.

i can't be sure, but charlie munson has been on wesc for at least 25 years continously. he has done news and sports before he was the host but still part of the morning show.

Mitch and Alex on Star 92.1 just had 5 years I heard them saying on commerical between songs. I wonder how long Blue and Ray were on the air for on Gator?

I know Blue and Korby Ray were only on for maybe two years - Scrubs and Korby Ray before that, Johnny Walker and Holly Heart before that, and wasn't there some other PD/morning man after Heart and Walker?

By contrast, Qantum's Eagle 92.9 has had Mudflap & Mattie for going on 6 years, which has to be the longest continuous morning show in the Pee Dee/Grand Strand area...Charleston has the Breakfus Club, but what else? TJ and Gary have only been on for about 7 years (Mike Tyler and Gary before that when TJ left town for a few years)...and the Wolf? Well...That's changed three times just since the Wolf came onboard....

Others?

For the upstate, how about Bill Drake who is currently on 103.3 WOLT. He was on WSPA-AM for 29 years before moving to 103.3. (according to awakewithdrake.com)

I guess I should have been more clear....back in the day, it wasn't uncommon for morning shows to last a decade or longer...but in these days of a poor economy, consolidation, syndication, voicetracking, etc...I was wondering about long-running morning shows that are currently active.

Well, in the Charleston area, Two Girls and a Guy has been on 95SX for at least a decade, but not with the same people. When they started, they had Maggi McGarr, Karen Paige, and Just Plain Mike. They switched so much with all their personalities, but Steve Waters was on for a long time, at least 7-8 years continuously (before he switched to the Wolf).

The longest running morning show on Charleston radio is Bob and Tom, as they have been continuously on 104.5 ever since WJUK switched to Q104 in March of 1996 (through several owners). Locally, it would have to be WEZL's morning show, even though they lost Janet Walsh twice and a couple of others.

WTCB has probably the longest running morning show, and most of their personalities have been there at least a decade (even some of the part-timers).

Well... then I guess it can be narrowed even more... Bob and Tom, while they have been on-air since '96(?), they're not local- syndicated. And if WEZL lost Janet twice and a couple of others, the "original show" is not still there-the main host has the longest tenure in that case- not the "show". That brings me back to Tessa and Baby J, who took over the morning spot I think in '99- where they are still to this day.

At least one Qantum country station can keep along morning show going. To bad they can't say the same for Gator. I wonder if Qantum ever thought of having Mudflap and Mattie on both stations. That would also save money in these times.

Didn't Root (pre-Qantum) simulcast morning shows back in the early 2000's? Heart and Walker were on both places, anyone know how they did ratings-wise? And why they stopped doing it? No matter how you slice it, the number of local morning shows is dwindling rapidly. Eagle can be heard in Myrtle, so there is some familiarity there for Mudflap and Mattie, and Eagle pulls a consistent 2 share 12+ on top of a 10 share in Florence. Maybe if the new, latest Qantum/Myrtle morning team craps out they go back to the simulcast idea. Budgets are tightening everywhere.

If the criteria includes syndicated morning shows, then the list could include John Boy and Billy from Fox 102 in Columbia since 1994 (I believe they were one of the first JB&B affiliates).

Also, I think Hawk Harrison has been on B93.7 since their birth in 1995, despite several co-host changes.

just 1 change....marty was before tom........same lineup other than that since 1995

Brian is correct. The Hawk and Marty show started in April 1995 and Marty left in 1997. Tom Steele joined Hawk Harrison, Heidi Aiken and Kato Keller in April 1997 and it has been the same lineup since then. So what is that? Right at 12 years in its current form...

How long has Murph Dawg in the morning been on HOT 981 WHZT ? I'm guessing 5+ years?
He has also been on 955 The BEAT WBTS for a couple of years as Murph Dawg and C.J. In the Morning.

I remember Jim Morgan being mentioned as a big reason for the success of Joy 92.

Joy 92 was changed to AC back in 2000, so he's been on at least that long. Then Easy 105.9 got him. Of course, Easy has been consistently at no. 1 or close to it, while the former Joy fluctuates.

Murph has been with Hot since the beginning. He started as the 7p-11p guy. Went straight to the top of the ratings. He was promoted to the gig in ATL and has been VT'ing the mornings on Hot. He is the only remaining person from the original air staff.

I gonna give a shout out for the Morning Show on WRNN in Myrtle Beach. I know Steve Porter has been there for several years. They rotate co-hosts, Lorraine Woodward and Debbie Harwell. Dave Priest answers the phones and produces. I've been a big Steve Porter fan ever since joined WRNN. Steve is a fine journalist!
