Longest Time Being Top 40 and Still Is

What is the longest time a station has been Top 40/CHR POP (whatever you want to call it) and still has the same format? K104 in the Hudson Valley of NY State has been for about 25 Years. Z100 has been for over 20 years. <P ID="signature">______________

We had this discussion awhile back...Stations like WAPE Jacksonville, and especially KDWB Minneapolis have been doing Top 40 for 40 years if not more.

WIFC in Wausau, WI was CHR in the early 70s. Probably was before then as well.

WHOT/Youngstown, Ohio signed on in October 1955 as Top 40. It remains that (hardly a shell of it's former self) today.
HOWEVER...
They did flip to Classic Rock/Rock in late 1991/early 1992, before going back to CHR in the summer of 1992.
(they started on 1330AM, moved over to 101.1FM [simulcasted on both for a few years] in the 80's)

WNCI in Columbus, OH is another one, since the 70's...but they also had a little AC stunt in the 90's

WZYP in Huntsville has been a Top 40 a very long time as well.

WRVQ- Richmond ( Q94 ) had been on I think 20 + yrs

I believe U93 in South Bend Indiana has been a top 40 for over 20 years, maybe longer than that. They were originally WNDU-FM, but when the station was sold to Artistic Media of Indianapolis from Notre Dame University, Notre Dame refused to allow the calls to go to the new owners, so they changed the calls for both the AM & FM to WNDV. So only the Monicker stayed the same the entire time. B96 in Chicago has been a top 40 for at least 25 years. They started out as a typical top 40, then in early the 90's, they were top 40 dance, then in 1996 became rhythmic top 40 (or CHR/Rhythmic as it's called today).

i remember hearing WPRO in Providence RI sign on in 1974 as "Pro-FM". 30+ years!

Kiss 108 in Boston has been CHR since 1979. 26 years.

WRVQ came on in 1972, that I do know.
33 years right there.

Here in Connecticut, WKCI has been Top 40 for 26 years and WKSS for 21.

Yes, but both WAPE and KDWB have gaps during the early 80's when they were not Top 40! WAPE (when they were on AM 690) dropped Top 40 in 1981 for Country and it wasn't until 1986 when WAPE-FM 95.1 signed on when "The Big Ape" returned. KDWB-FM evolved into Album Rock in 1980 or 81 and didn't go back to Top 40 until 1984.

One that should go into the record books is WNOK/Columbia. They were Top 40 on AM starting in the early 60's and went to FM in 1975.
