Scanning the dial, I was wondering what local radio personalities have been on-the air the longest?
1) Pierre Robert started on WMMR in 1981 as host of the overnight show ("Nighthawk"). He moved to middays
in October 1983, replacing Steve Sutton.

2) John DeBella-Came to WMMR in November 1982. After he left 'MMR in 1993, he took a year off and then went to WYSP in 1995. Stayed there until 1998. Went to WMGK in 2001 (I think).

3) Preston Elliot started at Y-100 in the early '90s doing afternoons. Went to WDRE in 1997. I don't know how long he's been at 'MMR.

4) John Stevens of WMGK started at WYSP and then moved to WMMR in 1979. I think he was off the air for awhile before
resurfacing at 'MGK.

5) Harvey Holiday may hold the record now (since Bill Webber died). He has been on-the air since the late '60s-early '70s.


Can you think of any others?
 
Helen Leicht of WXPN goes back to the late '70s progressive rock format at WIOQ. XPN has some specialty show hosts who've been around even longer; Jerry Blavat and Gene Shay were on Philly radio in the early '60s.
 
What about "Butter" (Joe Tamburro) from WDAS? He's got to be right up there having been with WDAS since the '60s and still running his Sunday Night Oldies show.
 
WXPN's David Dye is another long-time vet. WMMR, WIOQ (remember the Friday night Flashback on Q102 in the early '80s?).
 
Sid Mark since 1956 (55 years). Michael Tearson's been around since 1967 when he started on WXPN. Today he produces several internet and satellite radio programs, and does Saturday mornings and some fill-ins on WMGK.

I believe Preston was hired and came to Philly on the local WDRE to do afternoons. He went to Y-100 after WDRE was blown up by Radio One. Y-100 hired the PD from 'DRE and he brought some of the 'DRE airstaff over with him. The P&S show moved from Y-100 to 'MMR after Radio One blew up a 2nd rock station in the city.

Pierre did mornings for awhile after moving to middays and then he moved back to middays.

Glad you brought him up. I faguely remember him on WDAS-FM when i was a kid. I think he did the Sunday Night Oldies before Butterball. Can anyone tell me his history on WDAS-FM, and can anyone tell me about the theme he used, [ Ooo Ooo Ooo, harvey holiday...people uptown, YEAH, people downtown, YEAH... ]. Who sang it? It had a motown sound.
 
Hasn't Bob Pantano's Saturday night dance party been on the air since the 70's? And I beleive he started at a Camden station earlier in that decade.
 
There's another guy who's been on daily radio, but somewhat lesser known, because he has hosted a daily Jewish entertainment show afternoons for decades..and I believe he still is.

Barry Reisman...who was on 103.9 in the afternoon for decades, then onto 1540 WNWR.

Stan and the Topics did a lot of Holidays themes and jingles, at least from the late eighties on....I don't know if they were with him during his 'DAS days.
 
The "Ooh Ooh Ooh" Theme which is still used on Sunday Nights is sung by The Orlons. They also recorded "South Street" and many other hits on Cameo Parkway Records in Philadelphia in the 1960's.
