Longtime broadcast journalists Herb Weisbaum, Gregg Hersholt sign off

Good Lord, they're both in their 70's and enjoyed great careers during times when radio was all there was. Why 'Tucker Carlson'-the facts by bringing some conspiracy question into a perfectly reasonable piece of news?
It was a serious question. Many in their 70’s continue on, but some may not for various reasons. I personally retired at 56 because I could. But I still do gig work because most retirees need to do something to keep their brains working. Those near retirement, believe me this is a truism!

Did it occur to you that maybe they're looking forward to doing something different? Some consider leaving, or in this case retiring, while at the top of their game is the best timing. Not everyone gets to retire via inheritance.

Loved watching Herb Weisbaum on KOMO - and congrats on his retirement! I know Elisa Jaffe recently retired too - met her several years ago at a fundraiser event and she was a class act.

Kelly I hear that. I was just pointing out that some are blessed with an inheritance, and some are not. It is almost like a lottery. But both sides need to keep churning as this is what keep the human process going.

Herb has been gradually winding down towards retirement for years. His best stint on KOMO was as PM drive anchor, almost a decade ago. He was a TV guy who found a home on radio for the last third of his career and sounded great doing it. He'll be missed.
