Longtime Charlotte Personality Fired Over Policy Violation

The Charlotte Observer reports that Sheila Stewart, one of the best-known personalities in Charlotte radio, was fired this week by Infinity Broadcasting after a decade as news and public affairs director for WPEG FM.

Stewart said she was told she had violated policy by sending a letter on company stationery about a high school dance she was organizing for her private Sheila Stewart Education Foundation, which awards scholarship money to minority students attending college.

This may be old, but here is my 2 cents worth on the topic.

I will not miss her on Charlotte radio any more than I missed her whey she left Charlotte TV.

I believe this is the same lady who did traffic reports on the WBTV morning newscast for a while a few years ago.

Now she may have done a lot with her foundations and lots of charity work, but it always seemed to me that
she was much more interested in promoting "Sheila Stewart" than she was in anything else. Yes she helped get
scholarships and did a lot more good work for the community, but her name was always attached to the front of
everything she did, and she was always bragging on TV (or someone else was bragging on TV) about all the good
community service she was doing, especially in charities with her name attached to them.

I much prefer someone like Larry Sprinkle or John Hancock who also do lots of charity work in the community, but
so far as I know do not have any organizations with their names attached, and both always act very humble about the
charitable work they do. Sheila never seemed to have a humble bone in her body, but sure did know how to promote herself.

Just my $0.02 worth as adjusted for inflation. YMMV

(your mileage may vary)
