WBYN-FM in Boyertown, Pa. serving much of southeastern Pennsylvania, switched formats today. They are running "classic hits" as Frank 107.5 today, not sure yet if this is a stunt or the new format. The station signed on as WBYO in 1960 when stand-alone FM stations was a new idea. The station was a mix of southern gospel, soft Christian music, and teaching shows (and a 'Pennsylvania Dutch' language call-in show) until the late '80's, when it was sold and changed briefly to a AC format. In 1990 it was bought by Christian station WDAC in Lancaster, Pa. and became WBYN playing Christian AC and teaching shows. Last year Nassau Broadcasting took over the operation and started simulcasting on WBYN AM in Lehighton, Pa. which covers only a small part of the region the FM station did. (It cannot be heard clearly in Boyertown where the FM was based). They did start webcasting the station last night, but WBYN will be missed as the strongest Christian voice for about 40 years in the heavily fundamentalist Christian/Mennonite rural area northwest of Philadelphia.
