Longtime Opry Voice Fired in Cost Cutting Move--Keith Bilbrey

Keith Bilbrey has been let go from WSM. His midday shift will now be voice-tracked, and since he is no longer employed at WSM, he is no longer eligible to announce at the Opry. Bilbrey has been an announcer for the Opry for the last 34 years. An online petition has been created in the hope of keeping him on-air. Please sign the petition at the following link:

http://www.petitiononline.com/weeeds22/petition.html

At this point, over 2,500 people have signed in the last 2 days. Have your friends and neighbors do the same, and spread the word.

Thank you.

Just a correction: Bilbrey's shift will not be voice-tracked. The station's OM has been doing the show, and the GM of the station said the shift will continue to be live and local.

I'm sorry I was misinformed by the following statement from the WSMV website:

"The station assured him he had done nothing to provoke this. It was that they are doing away with the midday show … it will be strictly voice-tracked," Bilbrey's wife, Emy-Joe Bellenfant-Bilbrey, writes in an e-mail to music industry friends and associates.

This is from CountryAircheck.com: "Gaylord's WSM-AM/Nashville GM Chris Kulick checks in following yesterday's story on the exit of middayer Keith Bilbrey to report that the airshift will continue to be live. WSM-AM OM Joe Limardi will host until further notice."

I hope he can come back as he is the voice of The Grand Ol Opry. If they want to cut cost get rid of some the people who are steering country music in the rediculous direction of Pop, Rock and R&B mix into country music that we are forced to live with everyday, they are a great waist of money.

None of those people work for either the Opry or WSM.
