Longtime Richland Center broadcaster dies

40 years ago, Pete Athanas took a chance on this skinny kid from Chicago. I will always be grateful for that first opportunity at WRCO in Richland Center. Pete died this week at the age of 80. My thoughts and prayers are with Arlene and his family. The obituary follows...

Peter Athanas, age 80 of Richland Center, died on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Don & Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center in Fitchburg. Pete was born in Highland Park, Illinois on September 16, 1927 to Gust and Antigne (Tangolos) Athanas. He graduated from Highland Park High School and later the DeVrie Institute in Chicago, Ill. Pete came to work at Richland Broadcasting Corporation (WRCO) in July, 1950, where he worked as engineer and announcer and later as owner until his retirement in 1994. He was with WRCO for over 40 years. [EDIT]
