LOOK HOW BAD KNBR IS BEATING THE ENTERCOM SPORTS STATION!!

The 2 biggest reasons that KNBR is beating the entercom sports station so bad...The SF Giants and KNBR has one of the best signals on the west coast...no reason to switch to FM just as long as the Giants remain part of the station.

Instead of being "that guy", KNBR 680 (March-June)3.1, 6.0, 5.8,5.3. KGMZ 95.7(same period) 0.8, 0.9, 1.2, 1.1. From here, I will agree that the Giants help KNBR'S ratings(example, March to April) and that the 680 signal is a beast. I think KNBR being the heritage Sports talker there in San Francisco(I learned my lesson), and how KGMZ is programmed is an advantage for KNBR. And I do agree having a popular team on your station helps. WXYT in Detroit carries the Detroit Tigers, and in March, they had a 4.3 share(or close to it). The next three months, that went to a 6.1 to a 6.6 to a 6.5, so it's not too tough to believe the Giants are a ratings boost.

It doesn't matter. Advertisers buy locally. The car dealers, solar installers, and mattress sellers don't care if KNBR is heard in Albuquerque, Seattle, or even in Garberville. What matters is that the spots are heard in the Bay Area. I think you need to think like an advertiser, not like a listener. Remember that the customer is the advertiser, so all that matters is what the advertiser wants. KNBR's signal is great for local coverage, though. No doubt about that. KNBR wouldn't do so well if they had 5kw unless they were on 610, which packs a wallop with 5kw.

I'm sure that some year in the future, KNBR will have an FM repeater, and do even better. It's obviously not necessary now. It's often said on these boards that "younger people" don't even know how to find the AM band. That's ridiculous - it's just a button and it's labelled "AM/FM." I don't know how many young sports fans there are, but I'm sure they're able to tolerate play by play and sports talk on AM.

610 The game would remind me of that time when KFRC went all game shows. A time I want to forget.

So how about, 610 KNBR and 680 The Game?
It would be mass confusion for KNBR listeners!

The listener's are way smarter than that! You folks sure do like to dream!

If these two stations were located east where it is flat,I'd guess KGMZ would be doing better, they do not run much power.
FM doesn't do too well in the hilly Bay Area.

Since I don't listen to KGMZ I don't know how much the programmimg they have compares to KNBR.

Other thing that comes into play is that people will put up with static on a radio listening to a sporting event but not when listening to music,so AM does OK with sports ,not that good with music.
KNBR has a good AM signal, that helps.
Wonder what would happen if KGMZ had KIOI's FM signal ?

The "younger people" don't even use radio. They just stream it to their iDevices. And KNBR and the Game sound the same on a phone. It's all about the talent since neither station can stream the games and the Game doesn't even come close.

What is "FM"?

My sports leader is KFOX. Why can't either Sports station finally pick up the Sharks?

KNBR doesn't need to pick them up with the Giants, Niners, and Warriors. And what happens when all 3 are playing on the same night?

It would suck for Sharks fans if 95.7 picked up the Sharks since their signal in the south bay is a joke. While I'm not happy that the Sharks are one of maybe 4 teams in the NHL that don't have a call in show, at least between 98.5/102.1, I can hear them all over. Besides, 95.7 doesn't talk about hockey at all anyway so why bother?

Is hockey a real sport? :)

Ask Canada. :)

I wonder if Entercom could buy 860 KTRB and move the sports station to that dial and flip 95.7 back to Sports or Adult Hits.
