Saw the plane flying over area malls today with an attached banner, "Christmas Music 94.9 KLTY."

Shocked that "CHRIST" wasn't capitalized.

So how much Christmas music can one band hold? Robert, you might not need to play ANY this year! ;D

Too late, we've already started ;) But I'm thinking we oughta delay the flip to solid. Dr. G. and I are discussing it.

Oh come on, Bass. Keep with the Joneses. Give in...

Think about it (harp music please)

1. Yesterday's Christmas - Bobby Sherman
2. It Doesn't Have to be that Way - Jim Croce
3. White Christmas - Drifters
4. Anything by the Carpenters and Vince Guaraldi
5. Christmas Eve in My Hometown - Bobby Vinton (or Charley Pride)
6. Father Christmas - The Kinks

And for kicks...

1. Santa Claus and his Old Lady - Cheech and Chong
2. Santa Doesn't Cop Out on Dope - Martin Mull
3. Christmas at K-Mart - Root Boy Slim

You know? That could be your first stop set of hitting it solid. Enjoy. I'll expect my royalty check next week. Merry CHRISTmas. ;D

1. Yesterday's Christmas - Bobby Sherman

Don't know if we have that one, but I'll look

2. It Doesn't Have to be that Way - Jim Croce

On the list :)

3. White Christmas - Drifters

On the list :)

4. Anything by the Carpenters and Vince Guaraldi

On the list (both) :)

5. Christmas Eve in My Hometown - Bobby Vinton (or Charley Pride)

Pride's version is on the list :)

6. Father Christmas - The Kinks

Not sure if we have this one either. I'll look.

And for kicks...

1. Santa Claus and his Old Lady - Cheech and Chong
2. Santa Doesn't Cop Out on Dope - Martin Mull
3. Christmas at K-Mart - Root Boy Slim

No can do to any of those. A couple of years ago, someone heard one of those types of songs on KEOM, and called the Superintendant of schools at his house, to complain. Since then, KEOM has been ordered not to play that type of music. :(

I say "Bah Humbug" to the complainer.

Robert, people lack a sense of humor these days, I love hearing the 70's comedy xmas songs/routines (C&C, martin mull,ect..) because they refect the ear so well. Probably someone who didnt get invited to smoke some bud way back when.

ROFL! Truer words haven't been spoken, young man. ;D

Ive always dug the holiday parody song, it captures the spirit of the season at its best...Personally, KEOM should play Wierd Al's "Christmas At Ground Zero" in consistant rotation christmas eve and day....

Ummmmm........................................

Take the word "Noel", transpose the letters a bit and add an "h" and another "l".

Since I work for the Catholic radio station in town, I felt I needed to jump in here to provide my two cents, actually two cents of reality. This may sound like a guy trying to ruin a good time, a fun season, but the reality of the true Christmas season is that it was given to us by the Catholic Church and it doesn't begin until Christmas Eve. This Sunday we will officially enter into the Season of Advent, so in reality, if any Christian station wanted to remain true to the Christian faith, we should not yet be celebrating Christmas with 'Christmas Music.' If liturgical correctness is important, which it is to me, we should be anticipating Christ's birth, not celebrating it quite yet. Ever had someone sing Happy Birthday to you a month before your birthday? We all know the reason stations are playing Christmas music now is because it's good for advertisers, good for sales, good for the bottom line, but quite honestly, it's not good for those of us who take the faith seriously. How about some good anticipatory advent music (I know, not much out there but let's produce some), then play tons of happy Christmas music during the true Twelve Days of Christmas during the actual 'Season of Christmas,' which does exist, I promise. For secular stations, this probably means nothing, but to Christian stations, I think we should be more aware of what we're doing, what the season means, and being more sensitive to it. Until this Sunday, we're not only not in the Christmas season, we're not even yet into Advent. That's what's kinda scary to me when I hear so much Christmas music these days. God bless- RR

??? Man, talk about a buzzkill. Sigh. Anyone else to bring down the room? McFly?

Didn't ruin my good time.

Romanradio's post has done more for my All-Satan station idea than anything!!! We play Christmas music a whole MONTH before Christmas! Take that you God worshippers!

But, really, I know of what romanradio speaks. Imagine how ticked I get when they play "Monster Mash" on Oct. 31, when that's the START of the Satanic season, and we should be anticipating the BIRTH of the next-antichrist, not celebrating it so soon.

The flux capacitor got run over by a reindeer. Doc & Marty are too busy trying to repair it, to reply.

Sorry to ruin ya'lls fun, but if I made one person think, then I've succeeded in my intent!! It's called bringing a different perspective into a discussion. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yes. Someone thought a leap year occured, in a year it really didn't.

:D

it doesn't begin until Christmas Eve.

I'm with Roman on this one. Xmas used to be a great big hassle, between the extra work load and the stress of buying gifts (on a radio salary!) to hear Xmas music brought on a sense of dread. Then, once it's all finally done, and you're ready for Christmas, it's over!

Now I see it as two seasons... 'Commerical Christmas' and 'Liturgical Christmas'. Commerical Christmas is a period of penance, like Lent... Liturgical Christmas is the one I spend in chruch and with family.
Christmas At Ground Zero is the perfect song for Commercial Christmas. Likewise
'Rockin Around The X-mas Tree', and all the other seasonal dreck. Come the evening of the 24'th we'll enjoy The First Noel, Silent Night, and a few more religiously oriented songs for our Liturgical Christmas.

As much as I respect KLTY, they are a commercial station, and they participate in Commercial Christmas.
But that's what the people want, so that's what they get.

I seen that plane flying over North Richland Hills yesterday.

Roman and Sean, take this post to the CCM or Religious board. The over-sensationalism and hyper-commercialism of the holidays (or any day, in general) on Christian radio has been amply touched upon. I should know... I started the post. ;D

The buzzkill was because... well, it's like witnessing out of turn.

Bob: "Hey, you see the Cowboys game last night."

Steve: "Sure did. Great game."

The Apostle Paul: "Football is great but do you know there is a game vetting for your soul right now that you may not know about?!"

...and enter the dimmer switch in the room.

Your point is salient, true and Gospel. But consider the focus and timing, you may have a better result next time. IJS. ;)

No worries Buzz Killington ;) I think this is a good item to bring into the dicussion. Im of the belief that you can have both when it comes to this time of the year. While you wont hear me saying consistantly yaking about keeping "Christ in CHRISTmas" or saying "Jesus is the reason for the season" because both comments sound so trite and contrived,as well as insultive to others who choose to celebrate other ways (Ramadan, Tet, Hanukkah and my personal fave, Festivus). But, I do agree religion and faith have their rightful place in this season

I don't think Christmas At Ground Zero should get airplay. That's potentially upsetting to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11.

Yeah I know, that was 6 years ago, but still...
