Look who made it 20 years syndicated

Former WGST host Sean Hannity! He debuted Sept. 10, 2001.

Did he debut on WSB then? I can't recall...

Gee, something to be so proud of, he is the ultimate ******.

As I recall, it wasn't right away. At the time, Clark Howard was in afternoon drive followed by Atlanta's Evening News (which was all news at that time.)

IIRC he didn't do too well in Atlanta ratings wise. He goes to New York (which his New York accent fits in with) and gets the Fox gig and ends up with the slot after Rush. IMHO anyone with sub average talent could have followed Rush and been successful (not knocking Hannity), Rush was that entertaining. Hannity was good when he was teamed with Allen Combs.

That's not correct. Hannity was on opposite Neal Boortz and was very competitive.

Yeah, but toward the end things between Hannity and Alan Colmes (RIP, 2017) seemed to grow acrimonious and Hannity remarked at least a few times on the air that he couldn't wait to be rid of him. At least one documentary also mentioned that the pairing of Hannity & Colmes was created purposely by Fox News. On one hand you had Hannity who was somewhat handsome, well-styled with a stocky build, opinionated and quick on his feet. On the opposite side, you had Colmes who wasn't terribly becoming, had a face for radio as they say, and even on his own radio show he could at times take a beating from callers without much defense, especially during the "radio graffiti" portion.

When Colmes passed, some outlets called him the "amiable liberal foil to the hard-right Hannity". Others labeled him "Fox News' original liberal patsy". So maybe Hannity was good when teamed with Colmes, but it was also set up so Hannity would be the stronger of the two in most every way.

Which station was Hannity on WSB or GST
Both.
GST got him starting Oct 27, 1992 from Athens, Ala. WVNN to replace Boortz. Boortz's contract had expired at end of Aug. and Boortz was waiting out his non-compete to go to WSB. Originally, Boortz was local-only, and initially in the same timeslot as Limbaugh who was then still on GST. Hannity was mornings on GST and was up against Clark Howard on WSB. That lasted less than a year at WSB. They swapped Boortz and Howard -- the reports were that Boortz was losing to Rush. Initially. ratings-wise, Hannity was competitive, but he only lasted 4 years on GST. In '96, with Boortz beating him in the ratings, he went to NYC for Fox News on TV and then afternoon drive on WABC. After his syndication, WSB picked up Hannity. (Source: Newspapers.com issues of the AJC.)

Why is that Boortz beating Hannity in the ratings is not proclomated more?
If you mean "promoted" I am sure it was: where it matters, which is to advertisers.

As to promotion to potential listeners, talk shows tend to be followed if a listener likes them, not because they are popular.

Boortz used to mention it a bunch on his show after Hannity moved to NY.
He also used to talk about being friends with Hannity off air and how they used to talk on the phone to each other during news breaks of their shows when they went head to head.

Not both if we're talking about locally. Hannity was on WGST. His only time on WSB was/is in syndication.

Hannity left WGST voluntarily for more money and fame. WGST did not want him to leave. When WGST lost the Braves to WSB in 1994, that plus WSB's superior signal and improved formatics under PD Greg Moceri started taking its toll on WGST. Being on WSB gave Boortz some natural advantages, but Hannity held his own.

You gotta like somebody if you're gonna call him "Baby Jesus". 😄

OK. I just thought that there would be some mentions of "Boortz the highest rated conservative talker on Atlanta radio" or words to that effect on various media outlets.

Although I'm not a Conservative talk radio listener, whenever I heard Boortz he appeared to be more palatable than Hannity.

There appeared to be a lot of complaints about Colmes being more a comic foil for Hannity rather than someone who could go head to head with him as I recall. On one of the boards that preceded this one had a long-running "Hannity vs. Grant" thread when they were competing in New York.

There is opinion/preference and then there is petty, partisan name-calling that lowers the level of discussion and adds no value to the conversation. Do better.
He is currently the most polarizing radio host around. With the way his persona has created controversy and acrimony, that type of a reaction is simply to be expected. And believe me, I’ve heard much worse.

It is what it is.
