What has happened to conservative talker 1570 WTWB. It has either gone dark, or I simply cannot pick it up clearly anymore.

It switched in an apparant LMA with Carpenters' Home Church to former Polk County Sheriff's Office PR rep Lynne Breidenbach, and was airing a mix of right wing talk (local and Fox Radio) with time set aside for CHC's religious programmes. She moved the studios from the old CHC location (now Without Walls International Church Central Campus) in North Lakeland to the transmitter location in nearby Auburndale.

With Hall Communication's WLKF doing mostly conservative talk as well, not to mention the other signals coming in from Tampa/St. Petersburg and Orlando, Ms. Breidenbach had a tough row to hoe.

Anyone wanting to buy a radio station may want to keep a close watch on this station, in case it has gone dark. CHC will not want to keep it long, due to it's diminished financial status (it has lost a sizable bit of it's membership in the past few years, and in the deal with Without Walls it switched church buildings; CHC is now in Without Walls' original Central Campus in Auburndale). A good opportunity for a clearer Spanish language format to serve Lakeland/Winter Haven...God knows we don't need another religious format!

I thought CHC owned an FM on 90.1 if I recall correctly. They must really have financial problems if they sold it, and run that flea power AM under an LMA
1570 really gets trashed at nite because the mexican clear channel station has upped its power to over 100000 watts again. It regained its status as a border blaster

Sorry if I implied if WTWB had gone dark; I was just wondering what had happened and was trying to pick it up after it had reduced to night power. I would still keep an eye on it in case Briedenbach Communications falters on her LMA.

To answer you question, sbe1:

Carpenter's Home Church did own what was then WCIE on 91.1. It was well known for it's Christian rock/pop format, one of few stations actively targeting a young audience. Of course, it seems to have been consistant with CHC's hosting of major Christian rock/pop concerts during that time. Apparantly after the church split resulting in a number of members leaving and forming Victory Assembly of God nearby, the church began suffering financial diffculties. In 1996 CHC sold WCIE to Moody Bible Institute and changed the call to WKES. They purchased WTWB shortly thereafter.

There is an interesting Website, http://www.mindspring.com/~brucec/wcie1.htm, set up as a tribute to WCIE by a fellow who produced one of it's weekly programmes. It also mentions the situation following it's abrupt format change after the church's schism and shortly before it's sale to Traditional/Southern Gospel. Also included is the format clock used during it's CCM days.

Mr. Pickering,

Just thought you might like to know that WTWB is doing VERY well and has a great line up of progams! When the station powers up (as all AM stations have done for the last 50yrs) Bill Bennett's "Morning In America" is hosted by Scott, Seth & Dale and is considered by some to be "The Best Morning Show on the Planet!", then Bill O'Reilly comes on from Noon to 2pm, followed by Brian and The Judge and ends the day with Lynne Briedenbach's show from 4pm to 6pm. In between these great shows are other inspirational and local programming.

Also, Lynne's show just inked a syndication deal and will be heard nationwide soon!

In closing, I'd like to say that I agree with your comment that we don't need more "religious" programming. But obviously, we'd all would do well to listen to shows that explain how you too can have a relationship with God through Jesus. I mean, what harm could it do to have a relationship with He who has created all things?

Thanks for listening!!!

Someone in New York mentioned to me last week that one of the Hall stations in Lakeland was close to being sold. Any rumblings about that?
