Looking Back at 2005

2005. What a long strange trip it has been. 2005 saw these changes

Indianapolis

WENS: From Hot AC to Hank(Country Variety Hits?).
WGLD: From Oldies to Variety Hits
WTPI: From AC to AC leaning Variety Hits
WKLU: Refocused.
WNOU: Leaning more Rhythmic.


Evansville

WJLT: From AC to oldies.
WJPS: From Oldies to Country
WYNG: From Country to Sports
WYXY: From CCM to Variety Hits

2005 saw the exit of Jason Austin, the return of Sam Yates to WKDQ and new additions to the WDKS staff.

All of the affected staff at the Indy stations that changed were fired with the exception of Wank and O Brian.

South Bend got a new Hip Hop/R&B as Power 95.7, and Variety Hits showed up on Ft Wayne's radio dial at 102.9.

I'll be making a seperate post for 2006.

Personally, I would like to see every station flip just to confuse the old people that complain about anything and everything as it is.

Seriously - you can say what you want, but I feel we have a great selection of radio options here in Indy

I AGREE....and let us not forget that 95.9 changed from whatever they
were doing to stale old hits from the 60s, etc...and that am 1590 turned
its corporate wallet towards the latino community having dumped its
gospel music. True avant garde, on the edge programming, folks...a
yawn-fest extravaganza!!! Wake me when something unique happens.

Oh, I dunno... as mentioned in the first post, Russ Oasis taking KLU from a 0.8 to a 3.5 was pretty cool. 104.5 flipped from Oldies to Jack which was unexpected and Hank signed on 97.1 with (I think) a first in that type of country format.

Another change in Evansville was the morning show shakeups at South Central.
Tammy Boyd leaves WIKY, creating an opening for Hot 96 co-host Diane Douglas and an opportunity for morning show producer Sarah Pepper. Diane brought much needed substance and experience to the WIKY morning show that Tammy didn't seem to have, except for laughing at all or anything. Sarah brought a fantastic sense of humor and was able to relate to the Hot 96 audience much better than Diane,imho. It was a win-win situation for both stations and both ladies.

In a related story, Sam Yates wasn't the only one to return to E-ville. Former WKDQ personality Rusty James made his return as the PD for 93-5 The Wolf.

Please...The Crock Sucks! I have been through Terre Haute twice since it signed on and it is on it's way to being the next failed format...if you can call that crap a format.

Well, not the first time, but it is the most unique format I've heard lately in Indiana. I think it would be a lot better with an airstaff (I have the same feeling about Jack -- fixing the trainwrecks).

And about the Crock being a "crap format", a friend told me that a station calling itself crap would be great: play country and rap (or even better: classical and rap)

I like the Crock's music for the most part.

I've heard the Crock a few times since they signed on and I gotta say I like it. I've heard of stations like the one in North Carolina (and I think there was one in Florida too) and I don't know why they failed. This is a great idea that should be explored further. Maybe someone with start a Rock/Rap station or a Sports/Rock station or something like that. I think it would be cool! I mean, they usually play a lot of rock in sporting events anyway--why fight it? And Rock and Rap are already together in top 40 formats. They could be on to something.

Also, let's not forget the Track here in Indianapolis.
