Looking for 80s WNSL (Laurel) PD Ron Davis

I am searching for my old Program Director at WNSL FM 100.3 in Laurel/Hattiesburg. Ron Davis PD'd the stations in the 80s and did mornings at the am Q-890. If anyone knows where he is and how I can reach him I would appreciate it a LOT.
Edited by gregdymon on 12/09/05 05:33 PM.

Six months later and NOBODY who used to work at SL-100 has read this post???I know he worked in Meridian some time in the 90's and I think he used to live in Waynesboro for some time when he PDd SL 100.If ANYONE knows where Ron is (or if he's still alive) I'd really like to know where he is.

Well, although it has been nearly a year, I came across this post. Ron was truly a class act, and I always considered him a good friend. He is originally from Waynesboro, and he did AM drive on WQIS while I was overnights at SL-100. I would like to know what's happened to Ron myself. If anyone knows, please let us know!

I noticed Ron Davis' name on the Website for SL-100 sister station 102 WJKX, the CC cluster's R&B/Old School station. However, when I click on his name nothing comes up on his page...so I have to wonder if Ron is still there or if he has left and the webmaster simply hasn't taken his name off the site.

Speaking of SL-100, having seen the reply of my former PD Russ L. Williams from my overnights there circa 1980-82, it made me wonder about some other folks from that time I haven't thought about in years:

Jim Scott: He was the AM drive talent and also did some sales. Back then SL-100 did a half hour morning show called the "Masonite Whistle", sponsored by Laurel's Masonite plant. Although the station was CHR, that half hour was mostly country music along with an interview feature regarding some operation at the plant.

Granville Walters: He's probably passed on long ago, but he was the GM. Old school radio, and he held a smaller stake in the ownership as the Hollidays were the majority owners.

And I forget who the SM was at that time, but he and his kids hosted a two hour show on Sunday afternoons called the "Jones County School Review". It included some music, but mostly talk and interviews regarding school activities and programmes in the area. Of course, when the SM did the interview on site with a class, he made sure that the kids of at least a couple of the sponsors were included, and that they got a mention. It was by no means a polished show, but there were plenty of advertisers

If you can think of some more folks from that period, and can share what they're doing now, please add it here.

BTW: Nice to see that Sheri Marengo is still hanging there. She's at SL-100 now, but I worked with her at WFOR/WHER Hattiesburg during the late 1980s. Still looks great. Hope she and the others in the CC family land well when the axe falls.

If it's the same Ron Davis I know.....very talented, truly great guy.......he was programming at the ABC~ Radio Network for a time. That's where I first knew him. He then left Dallas, only to return soon after. I taught with him at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting here in Dallas about 6 months ago. He's running the Southern Soul Network. The website is www.southernsoulnetwork.com
Hope this helps
