Radio Friends:
I've posted this in the Connecticut radio forum, but, due to lack of response, am going wide with my question. I'm new to the forum and have a question that requires someone at least as old as I am, which is saying something.
I was in college in the late 70's/early 80's in Connecticut. On Sunday mornings, I tuned in to a program called Back to Mono, I think out of one of the rock stations in Hartford. Given its air time, the show was most likely regionally or nationally syndicated. As the name implies, it played rock and roll and R&B singles from the mid-60's and back. I've encountered much of this music in the intervening years, but I haven't heard the theme song again (or not knowingly anyway), which was never announced. It was the sweatiest, greasiest tenor sax playing a fabulous triplet figure. It appeared to be the sax solo from some song or other, but, to my knowledge, the show never played the entire song.
I've been looking for this music for decades and finally had the bright idea to ask the radio experts. None of the music experts I've consulted remembers the show, and a Google search for "back to mono" results in a lot of interesting stuff but not the show, which of course aired years before the web.
Does anyone remember this show and its theme song? If so, can you please share the artist and song? If not, do you have any leads on a radio historian or museum or other source to answer this question?
Many thanks to you all,
-Dave Spelvin
