Looking for ABC Starguide

Starguides will be used for a while for the many independent syndicators... I've seen them on eBay recently. I have several myself. ABC and Dial-Global like their new boxes because they can zone national commercials, with the built-in audio storage. Plus the Wegener has an antenna connector for the time they start monitoring your air signal to make sure you don't cheat.

Yea, those Jones/Dial-Global receivers have been very problematic to say the least. To start with, the rack ears won't hold it up, I've had the hard drives crash in several of them, power supply fail in two of them. Also if you can't get the receiver to talk to them (which is often a problem with the receiver) they won't authorize it. They NEVER send them authorized either. Apparently if you use a static IP through the LAN port, the WAN port must be set to DHCP (they can't tell me why). If not, then it won't communicate back to them. Took them months to figure that out, all the while saying it was my problem.

Although the normal audio is fantastic, when they play spots back from the receiver, they sound like crap. The files on the receiver are 256k mp2 files, but I think before they send them to the receivers, they are cutting them down to 8 bit. They won't admit any of this either.

And if you are on any of their 24/7 formats, they had a big staff downsizing recently, and most of their formats are completely tracked. The few that are live sometimes, only have a few hours here and there live. Isn't the reason we go satellite to have a live jock there?

WE just switched to the Dial Global classic rock from ABC/Citadel. Big improvement--live most hours & they don't screw up as much as the voice-tracked ABC feed.

Have noticed the weak rack ears on the Wegener receiver. Also, typical of much new equipment, they've gone for long over tall--darn things are too long for most racks. Plus the brilliant move of not letting you turn off the voltage to the LMM. We use a rack-mounted supply for the LMB and feed our 5 different receivers off splitters.

You can actually turn the LNB voltage off. I forget where it is in the menu tree, but it is in there. Yes, their classic rock format is one of the better Dial Global formats. Adam is great to work with. Musically Dial Global is right on target with pretty much every format, and most of the jocks are great. It's just all the voice tracking that bugs me, and the engineering departments refusal to admit there is a problem with the quality of the spots that play from those receivers. And all the problems with the receivers themselves. I think they should send everyone a backup since they have so many problems with them.
