Because I've heard the Soft AC format described as soft rock and easy listening, I've labeled my iTunes playlist of stations as Soft Rock/Easy Listening Radio.
This is a channel I came across recently when I was checking airplay for some singers I like on Tunein.com: http://www.channelztheedge.com/
It's like Joy 99.5 - half mellow, half edgy - but with a larger playlist.
Sample playlist:
Lady Love Me - George Benson
Sister Golden Hair - America
Colors Of The Wind - Vanessa Williams
I'll Still Be Loving You - Restless Heart
All Of You - Julio Iglesias
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Only In My Dreams - Debbie Gibson
Over You - Daughtry
I Go Crazy - Paul Davis
I remember hearing this on an awards show and thinking it sounded pretty good.Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Ray Conniff, Ferrante & Teicher, Bert Kaempfert, Henry Mancini, Johnny Mathis and of course Streisand and Sinatra.LOL! And what do you consider a "real" easy listening sound?
Even though adult standards and soft AC overlap quite a bit (and much more so than they did years ago), soft AC entails covers quite a bit more musical territory, so many listeners wanting to hear soft AC wouldn't want to hear adult standards, and vice versa.
I have listened to Joy 99.5 and enjoy it as well. I have noticed it tends to be a little more adventureous than most traditional soft ACs. Since you are both from Orlando, is Joy 99.5 based on the former soft AC there in Orlando, Joy 108 FM?
I remember hearing this on an awards show and thinking it sounded pretty good.
However, I have little use for new music by new artists outisde of country, and even then it has to sound like "real" country.
The only new AC tunes that come to mind that I like are "Forget You" by Cee-Lo, "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk and some songs by Michael Buble which I am forced to listen to since they end up on my usual radio station just because Michael Buble's traditional style music was already played there.
Actually, I had reservations about adding Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" and Pharrell Williams' "Happy" to Lite 99's playlist but if those two songs pass muster with you, Chimp, as particular as you are...I must have made the right decision to add them.![]()
I am glad that you enjoy Joy 99.5. It is a labor of love from two radio geeks in Orlando, Florida who simply love the music and wanted to keep the format alive and accessible via the Internet.

Let me add Sam Smith after the American Music Awards. Assuming his performance on that show, without the unnecessary rap, sounds like what is on the radio. If it does, he could even be on America's Best Music.I remember hearing this on an awards show and thinking it sounded pretty good.

That's pretty much how I feel. I also like country music that sounds like country music did when it sounded good. Not the style of "country" so many people like.My dad sounds even more particular than you are. He doesn't like any current music unless the artist is singing standards.
