Looking for Opinions

With the conditions in Japan regarding the nuclear power plants, we (Main Street Out Loud) wanted to give some basics regarding nuclear power plants, construction, components, safety issues, tests and understanding of the energy source.

We felt that people hear the words thrown around, but never really clearly grasp the concepts or the basics by which they can make an individual assessment of the material presented. Therefore, this past Saturday (3/19), we asked a Professor and the Director of Nuclear Power Generation Program at ASU to be our guest and comment or answer questions, in lay terms, about the issues in Japan and about our own nuclear power plants. For clarification: Dr. Holbert has major credentials in the field of nuclear energy and has inspected more than a dozen of our plants in regards to safety tests and conditions. You can learn more about this individual by replaying Saturday's program, available on our web site--address below.

Here are our questions: Do listeners really care about getting such an authority? Do listeners really want to hear an in depth discussion (we devoted an entire hour to this subject) on issues or do listeners want the highlights and then move on?

It is our contention that expert guests and in depth coverage of issues are not being presented on radio (or any other media, for that matter) and that people welcome it with open arms. We don't have any use for media sound bites, hype and inuendo. And, we believe that talk radio should be about the issues and not the host.

Do you feel we are on target or are we missing something? Would really appreciate getting some comments. And yes, we probably are promoting ourselves with this post. As long as we feel we have something of value to offer the radio listener--why not? Web site: http://www.mainstreetoutloud.com Email:[email protected]
