LOOKING FOR SCOOPAGE

What is the new format at CBS going to be? Look like they're lining up for a change at KHJZ?

Could KIKK (the country one) be re-launching? I understand they are blending the Jazz staff together with the KILT FM staff. I also heard Barry Warner was over at Greenway Plaza yesterday morning.

You are wrong on your intel, Tricky Dick. Be advised that CBS will launch a very strong format that WILL win in Houston, and it will be the first listener-friendly format in a very long time.

I'm sad they fired Muriel, though. She was a good woman with a lot of experience in radio. I know some of you will pile on HER, now, like you have with Laura, but Muriel doesn't get the credit she deserves for what she had to work with.

Everybody in that building has known for a while that a format change was coming.

Wrong, everybody likes Muriel. She's likable.

There are a lot of people that wanted to Smooth Jazz format to expire as soon as it came on the air. I was there at the beginning. The naysayers were chomping at the bit for it's demise. A lot folks on this very board "piled on," as you call it.

As far as that "very strong format that WILL win in Houston," I can't tell you how many time in the past 35 years in Houston radio, that I have heard that phrase. The proof will be in the performance.

I still wholeheartedly believe that if KIKK were able to go 100% "Texas Country", then they would have a shot a being a great radio station. The folks that tune into the the local Texas music scene aren't interesting in hearing some Kenny Chesney or Tim McGraw thrown in the the mix.

The artists that makes up that format are selling out places all over town, I have no doubts it would make a viable format.

I just hope it's not "Movin' " or "Fresh". We have enough CHR & Rhythmic stations in the market and I can't get into "New AC", which is "Fresh". I think KHJZ's biggest problem is they started adding too much AC & Urban AC to the playlist. They got away from the Jazz.

I'd still like to see Active Rock in the market. I just don't see CBS going that route.

Shameless self-promotion: 7-12 Sunday evenings - nothing but Texas music on my show at KILT.

But I doubt very seriously that CBS would even consider bringing back that format full time. It appeals to a completely different demo than what they think is "money numbers". I'd like to see the KIKK calls come back in some way.

I gave up a long time ago trying to guess what management might do.

There's no room in the market for four country stations. Perhaps the current three is too many. Demographics and music tastes have changed too much in the past 20 years.

I'd like to see the KIKK calls come back in some way.

I still think CBS missed a golden opportunity in 2002 by not buying out 92.1 and flipping it to "Classic Country KIKK 92FM." Would have beaten Country Legends to the punch.

just heard the whole khjz staff was let go.

hmm...little the FLIP rumors fly.

my guess is "Classic Country" just in time for the rodeo....yeeehaaaa!!!

I would hope for another rock station to compete against the Buzz and/or Arrow. maybe even similar to the new rock/AAA in New York, 1019rxp

I just tuned in at 3:26PM and heard Greg Morgan. If they let the whole staff go, then why is he on the air?

So, then, if this is CBS (and, that's a big IF), are we lookin' at AAA?

I pursued more detailed whois information through Enomx, but the registrant is anonymized.

Maybe I'm missing something, here - in fact, I'm sure I am, but... why would you fire your whole sales staff?

MAN I SHOULD BECOME A CONSULTANT ...NO BUT SERIOUSLY
