Looking for the best receiver!

Looking for the smallest radio device with the best receiver (distance wise) any suggestions??

Best small receiver or small best receiver? AM or FM or SW?

Check the C Crane (ccrane.com) website.

Remember no radio is better than the antenna you're using.

How good does the Sangean ATS-909x do with FM Dxing?

Pretty much the same as the Tecsun DSP and Grundig G8 radios. I have the 909x; the excellent adjacent channel selectivity is about the same as those DSP radios, and only the Sony XDR-F1HD has even better selectivity. Plus, unlike the Tecsuns, you get RDS on the 909X. But the 909X tunes in 50 kHz increments.

I hope it's good because I just got one in the mail! And it wasn't cheap either ;). The tropo season hasn't quite picked up out here in west texas yet (I'm located in Lubbock). And the skip season is still a little bit away. So I have not been able to test it much yet. Shortwave reception is pretty good though! But I'm more into the FM side of things.

I agree about the RDS! I've been able to catch several IDs in my car radio thanks to RDS and hope to do the same with this radio.

I'm hoping I can DX with this radio like I can in my car

Best small radio for FM DX, is the Grundig G8 (Tecsun PL-300WT), IMHO.

I can vouch for the G8 being great for FM.

And for it's size, the shortwave reception is amazing with only the little external antenna it has.

I'll throw in a vote for the smallest FM radio, the Insignia NDS-HD01 or whatever the newest model is. RDS is kinda flakey on mine, but for analog reception it goes head to head with much bigger radios. And it also does HD, which is mostly irrelevant for DX but I've logged a few stations with the HD PAD when RDS didn't work, so…

I would rank the best "inexpensive" radio for AM band dxing would be the Sangean PR-D5. For a shirt pocket radio, the Tecsun PL-606. By inexpensive I mean (new) in the 50 to 80 dollar range. Both WITHOUT any assists (such as an inductive loop) can receive 50 kw stations regularily out to around 1300 miles from my Tucson AZ QTH.

For the best inexpensive radio for AM reception would be the Sony SRF-59, hands down (we're talking $18 or so at the local Krogers).

Pretty decent even in low level signal territory barefoot, add a small loop and it will match or outperform a Superadio. The audio is good, a little more harsh AGC than my Superadio through headphones, but still has excellent clarity.

For FM, I have no idea. A lot of guys seem to swear by that G8.....

My mistake I meant for FM DXing or listening to Distant station's.
Let's say that I'm on Amtrak train most portable radio's will pick station's that are very strong in signal but will barely pick up distant station's and will not pick up fringe station's.
Thank's guys

The problem there is as much due to electrical interference from the train and the shielding of the car body as a lack of sensitivity. You usually have to put the radio right against the window to get much other than very local stations. That doesn't work well if the signal is coming from directly in front of or behind the direction of travel. In my experience a little SRF-59 will pick up as much as just about anything else in that situation.

What about this?
The Insignia HD Tabletop Radio NS-HDRAD?

You're all WRONG ;)

Hands down: Kaito 1103 aka DE (Degen) 1103. Absolutely- it can go head to head with my Grundig Satellit750 for Shortwave and MW - maybe better on LW too. Seriously- it's a DYNAMO! Best radio under a hundred dollars, I've seen it run about 89. on average. Don't let the cheap price scare you away, quality is top notch. It has a weird function with the volume that takes getting used to though. Just look up reviews on this radio and you'll see my enthusiasm is not without merit.
