A good buddy of mine with money is looking to buy a station in the Austin area and i was hoping some one here could point out some stations that could be up for sale or may be interested in a LMA!

Your friend would probably have more success and less stress by franchising a resturant.

I was going to point you to this thread, since I remember it had good information, but I see that it's a thread you started.

I clicked your link and started reading through some of the comments in the thread. I was thinking how insightful some of the comments were until I looked up and realized that I was the one who wrote most of them. I must be getting old, because I did not recognize my own writing.

For what it is worth, 3 of the BMP AMs and KLGO have been sold since the last time this came up, but the rest of the thoughts are just as true today as when they were written.

there was one station that didn't make it on the air, 1120 in manor,tx (northeast of austin). something about the application modification wasn't filled out correctly and another company was trying to move a station from edna,tx to the north of san antonio, tx and then this summer the 1120 application disappeared. jne investment was the 1120 application. and the 1130 kmtr edna application is siga.

I have about 2 million dolars to play with and buy a decent station in Austin anyone able to pick up ktmr in Austin? How about San Antonio? Anyone know where Encino is broadcasting from?

encino radio is owned by jose j. garcia from austin, he has been owned radio stations in austin for a long time. he bought 2 of his former stations and koke am that was a religious station and eventually was bought by amigo broadcasting that sold all the spanish stations to border media. i think jose j garcia's old company name was dynamic radio company, before saleing his 4 stations.

yes i have that updated info what i need is a new office number and adress to current locations i would like to make mr garcia a offer

I believe KOKE is a sleeping giant.
Two of the stations it was protecting on 1600 have gone silent... Cuero (outside Victoria) and Brownsville.
A transmitter site northwest of Austin could cut a mighty swath to the southeast covering all the metro with a solid fulltime signal.

CC shut KBOR 1600 Brownsville down in 1976. The market GM was kind enough to answer my email. He said the directional antenna needed some major work and they did some number crunching and decided it wasn't worth it. They surrendered the license.

KBOR was running 1kw into 2 towers as I recall. It never had the coverage of the whole market. The previous owners started 1700 running 10/1kw which was also scooped up my CC when they bought KBOR. Right now 1700 is loaded with syndicated news/talk fare.

I cut my teeth on radio at KBOR. I miss the place.

I don't even think 1700 in Brownsville goes to 1 kw at night. I am able to hear them in Houston, Bryan-College station, and in Central Mexico at night. If it does switch to 1 kw , then.......wow!

The FCC query says KVNS 1700 Brownsville is 8,800 watts daytime and 880 watts at night.
If it's not reducing power you have another argument for staffing stations 24/7.

Indeed, if those folks ARE running 8800 at night, you should be able to hear them in a large part of the US and Mexico. I think it's something about the Valley. I remember seeing QSL requests at KRGV from Baja California. The pattern for KRGV AM was (at one time) an inverted "V" with the two legs going into Mexico and the Gulf. The chief engineer once told me that he even had a reception report from New Zealand...and this was running 1kW day AND night!
