Looks like another "Black Tuesday" at CC Austin

A bunch of air talent is getting the axe today. Part of the CC plan to voice track everything except morning shows in all but a few large markets. Details to follow....

Yup. Firings going on here in SA too.

You can tell what side the market manager is from by the firings too.

1-If it's mostly office/sales, then he's a person who cares about the product.

2-If it's on-air talent, then he's a sales guy that couldn't make it as a DJ.

Take what I say and match it up to your situation.

heres the skinny on CC Austin, Let Go were Gerry Harmon - Afternoon Drive, John Zenor - Weekends at KASE, Tony Cortez - Afternoon Drive, and JC, weekends at KHFI along with Ray Webb who had only been on the job not even a year with KVET-FM.

pretty much the entire afternoon shift and any part timers not tracking other CC stations.

Looks like Brother Dave is out at KZEP. Oh boy, here comes Walton and JOhnson or Bob and Tom! WOW! Hey Lisle and Hahn, here's comes another win for you courtesy of your friends at Clear Channel!

Brilliant

Gerry Harmon's gone because, as fine of a talent as he is, he simply was making too much money. When the economy is tanking, there's no room on the staff for a hundred-thou-a-year talent, UNLESS you are in morning drive.

hah... harmon wasnt making that much... infact noone in the CC austin programming dept now or in the past is or was.. you dont go into radio for the money...

i literally was paying them to work there...

I was part of the January layoff round,

what is interesting about the talent that was let go... none of them tracked for other CC or GAP stations that I am aware of.. should be interesting to see how they will eventually fill the holes, I dont think it is in the best interests to have the same jock track midday and evening shifts like they did today for too much longer.

It's like the cliche about cutting your nose to spite your face. We're having money problems so lets make radio less interesting. Huh? Less interesting means less time listening which means lower ratings which means even less money.

It's just like the newspaper....give less and charge more. Without the local voices, there's no reason to listen...and every reason to go to an alternate.

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! You are dead on.

MJ - you have no idea what you're talking about, there were and still are people in programming making that kind of money. Mostly those who are still around from the pre/early-CC buyout days. You were entry level promo department..

That being said, Gerry was a victim of the "premium talent" initiative - essentially a star-systems type deal, where some "top" CC talent is made available for midday shifts - those who didn't make that cut are pretty much gone company wide..

The death of the newspapers all across the country has nothing to do with localism. The internet is killing newspapers.

Nevertheless, I agree with what you said about radio, essentially, there's no reason to listen.

Well, my point was that newspapers are giving us less of EVERYTHING, and radio gives us less local content. Yea, I was stretching it a bit ;D, but I think we're on the same page. If radio gives me nothing I can't get somewhere else (and WITHOUT commercials) I'm somewhere else.

Looks like Cruz is now 12-6 at 96.7 KISS now. Who's on nights? VT out of somewhere no doubt. And, speaking of VT, less than an hour ago I heard the same throwaway VT'd line aired back to back on KISS. Glad to see they're committed to quality ...

Whenever a radio company is run by somebody called "Capital Partners" its obvious that the whole idea of quality programming is not priority. The radio industry will be dead inside of 5 years if they don't change direction.
