Looks like this might be the "New Breakaway"!!

Found nestled in Omnia's Press Releases section on their website is a quick summary of the new Omnia 9/XE...

Not much more than this:

Omnia 9/XE streaming and encoding software:

Extremely high quality for the discriminating streaming service
Undo with De-clipper prevents listener fatigue by removing distortion and selectively undoing the over-compression so common in mastering today
Up to 16 fully independent stereo processors in one instance, and up to 8 instances on one machine
Manage from anywhere with NfRemote, locally or across the internet
Includes AXIA Livewire driver
Simultaneous MP3/AAC/aacPlus/MP2/WMA encoding, compatible with Shoutcast, Icecast, Wowza and Windows Media servers.
Separately adjustable sample rate (high quality conversion) and gain control per encoded stream.

Here's the link: CLICK

I'm excited and a bit nervous about the pricing...

oooh... Can't wait to see this! I'm currently running an Omnia.one Multicast on my web stream. I too wonder about the price.

It caught my eye yesterday at IBC. I understood it still runs as a service as opposed to running as an application (good!). When I asked about pricing and if it would still be offered for €395 no answer could be given (yet?).

Interestingly enough I talked to Leif exactly about this 2 years ago. He didn't want to 'abandon' loyal Breakaway users and I suggested to build the new Breakaway and 'Leifcast' as the new AX/E and offer Breakaway users a one-time-opportunity to 'upgrade' to AX/E... So, who knows?

In an informal Facebook chat with Leif today, he mentioned the list price is $1450 per stereo instance.

I didn't ask about any specials for current Breakaway users.

I've not seen it come up in several broadcasting equipment dealers yet.. Have you?

I was quite shocked and disappointed by the price actually. Expected it to get more expensive, but $1450... And I think there won't be any special because Leif also stated "Breakaway is not dead, there will be updates". Duh...

$1,450? Wow, that's harsh! It's pretty likely I'd need a new computer for this... My current Breakaway program runs on a very old PC with the XP OS. It doesn't have a lot in the way of system resources. So that's another $500 or so.

I am not confident that this software is being targeted specifically to internet only broadcasters.. my guess their target audience is FM stations that stream also on the web (since you should if your doing it right run separate processing for your web stream and not just rebroadcast your FM encoded audio).

Nevermind....

So, in order words, it'll be an Omnia 9 without the $10,000 box full of generic, glued-together PC components...
I wish... O9 is Breakaway Broadcast Processor, 9/EX is Breakaway Live. Maybe though with LiveLink...?

edit: sorry, missed Bojcha's reply.

Leif is having problems accessing the forum, so he asked me to post this on his behalf:

Omnia.9/XE is the streaming section of the Omnia.9, delivered as software. It is our highest end offering for streaming – in short, if you are really serious about the sound of your stream, this is the option you need. Omnia A/XE is still offered for general streaming duty, and at a much lower price indeed. 9/XE has the same exact processing and streaming engine as the Omnia.9. It is not for FM. You could in theory use the monitor output of 9/XE and feed it to a processor with pre-emphasis clipping (such as Omnia.one SG, Optimod 5518, or even Breakaway Broadcast in protection clip mode) but it will not sound like the full Omnia.9. It is simply not designed for FM processing. It is designed for streaming, streaming is all it does, and it does it well. So well, in fact, that there are customers who have bought the full Omnia.9 just for streaming. We thought that was overkill, so we offer 9/XE.

Once and for all, 9/XE is not a replacement for Breakaway. This should be obvious from the price tag. Also, Breakaway is not dead.

Best regards,

///Leif

Just regained access to my account. ^ What Goran said.
@Richard Vanderveen: I really don't know where you get your information. Omnia.9xe is not Breakaway any more than 8600 is 8200, or 11 is Vigilante. Just because the meters look the same or that it has the same number of bands does not mean that it sounds anywhere close to the same on the air. There are a lot of things going on inside a processor, although the 9 (and 9/XE) is one of the few to actually show most of it to you.

Info is from somebody at Telos IBC booth...
So... (the new) Breakaway Live is not (gonna be) like the processing part of Omnia 9/XE?

Nobody at Telos has any information about Breakaway.
Come on Leif... It was 'confirmed' (as if that is a surprise) that YOU cooked up 9/XE and that 9/XE is based on O9 (as advertised), O9 has it's roots in...? Right. Why this cloak and dagger?

So I'll ask again: (the new) Breakaway Live is not (gonna be) like the processing part of Omnia 9/XE? Somebody mentioned you said "this year"?

Because the statement made is completely incorrect, Richard.

This car:

and this car:

..have the same engine. Same 3.6 liter Chrysler Pentastar. Do you also believe that these two cars are the same car? Will they handle the same? Same top speed?

Looks like Dodge Charger is the new Chrysler Town & Country Minivan! Wouldn't you agree?

Leif, I get the funny feeling you're trying to dodge the bullet here... But let's say you are right and I am completely wrong (based on information given to me at IBC), you still haven't answered my question:
