looping the introductions of songs

What's up with this? I know there are people who don't like when the DJ talks over any of the music, then there is what appears to be the majority, which don't mind it. What I don't understand though is why the introduction of a song is sometimes stretched to accomidate the track? Why don't they just start the music
 
Sorry, I'm not really following what you speak of. Do you mean stations are "padding" the musical introduction to enable talk-over? Or are you asking why composers generally put an introductory passage before the start of the melody?

I have some answers if I knew the question …
 
I'm guessing he means they are "extending" the intro by repeating it. In otherwords, if the song has :15 seconds of music before the first lyric, the station loops that :15 seconds into :30, etc...

R you are exactly right. Open House Party does this quite a lot, and when I asked about it I had just heard it done on KKRZ.
