Los Angeles...You're getting a dance station!

This is a win win for dance artists and labels. Once Pulse goes on the air you can expect the chr's in LA to add some dance music to their playlists. The same goes for Chicago. This will help out sales of dance artists. Things are looking up for dance music in 2009.

Hey, look....my first post.

I've been following these boards for a long time, but this made me finally jump in and post.

So, is there really a demand for a dance station that I don't know about? It seems like the idea of a "dance" station comes up a decent amount on these boards and I can't tell if its just some die-hard fans that would love a station or if there is actual demand?

Don't you think the fans of a dance station are a little more snobby than the average radio listener and thus have already left the radio for their own devices? Do they already get their fix from kcrw at night?

I promise I am not be sarcastic. Just curious.

Also - can you throw out a few artists that would be the core of a dance station? I mean, are you talking like some techno/house/D&B stuff or just remix/chr type stuff?

(background.....i am on the air now here in LA. won't tell ya what station, but i am a serious lover of radio and interested in all formats...even though i am a roq nerd.)

The San Francisco Bay Area has had a dance station for at least a couple of years now - Energy 92.7. It has a loyal following, but it's a very small following - the station has very low ratings despite the fact that it's marketed toward the Bay Area's large gay community, and has a popular gay morning team.

As far as I can tell, Energy has not caused any other stations to add dance music to their play lists.

aces,

Let me help you out. The history of this board, going back to even before it was incorporated into the RI site, is based on Dance posters doing everything they can to get Dance back on the air. It did come back for awhile with KDL on the 103.1 frequency and those posters were either ecstatic at Dance's return or complained that it was not deep enough, esoteric enough, etc. Of course KDL only lasted a short time, and Dance fans have been pining for another dance station again ever since. So yes, there are dance partisans on this board that are overrepresented when compared to the overall radio-listening population.

They've also added a talk show for 3 hours Monday-Thursday from 9 to Midnight now with Karel.

It's based on Pulse 87 in New York City. If all goes well, it should launch by June 1st.

KSFV, the LA area signal, is the 87.75 audio of a Channel 6 LPTV. I can't get it at the top of a 25 story building in Glendale...
Where is the transmitter in the San Fernando Valley?

I am getting the spanish language music format in West Los Angeles. I thought it was spanish religious or is the the LPTV?

Supposedly on Mt. Harvard, at least per the FCC

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=CA1187575.html brings up a TV 62 dbu map.

Ha. That's funny. I think most radios end at 88.1. Maybe 108.3 will switch to dance, too. :)
My Acura starts with 87.7. All of my home radios include 87.7.

Lets not forget that come June 12, 2009, all full-power analog TV stations in Los Angeles must go digital. So from the way it looks KSFV and all other LPTV stations in the Southland will have the analog airwaves all to themselves...for now.

At least until people's analog TVs start to crap out and/or the FCC says no mas.
After KWHY, KMEX, KVEA, KAZA, and KFTR are forced to bolt in June all that is left is Almavision and fringe preach stations.

I don't speak for anyone other than myself but I find little joy being stuck with God Talk 24/7.

LPs are going the course of the dodo bird.

Also, if KSFV is the Radio Guadalupe station on 87.7 their signal barely gets anywhere. In that respect, Indie 103.1 had better penetration for comparison.

Actually I got a pretty good signal at LAX for 87.7fm. I got it all the way out here in the IE, parts of Rancho cucamonga, ontario and some parts of Fontana. 103.1 doesn't reach this area.

I've actually heard it near Palm Springs.

R&R is reporting that Mega Media Group plans to expand its Pulse 87 dance brand from New York -- where it broadcasts from the channel 6 TV frequency -- to new leased channel 6 TV frequencies in Los Angeles (KSFV-CA) and Chicago (WLFM-LP) with programming to commence on June 1.

Well I really hope they fix the audio on 87.7fm. The spanish religious programming sounds dull, mono, and sounds like the audio is on high volume making my speakers bleed lol. But I'm grateful to see a dance station come into town. How does the 87.7fm audio sound in NY?
