Loss in the "Oldies 95.7" branding

OK, I guess it was a way to 'freshen' a station, but I remember hearing the jingle mentioned in this video on the (new)
KJR-FM with, of course, the addition of the "point seven" to the end.

It was catchy and I'm sad to learn it was part of the original station/Seattle heritage and now is lost to a generic Clear Channel rebranding. Mention/play is at a bit after 3:30 in the video.

Sadly it's true that CChannel, Citadel --> Cumulus, and CBS have not inherited a major legacy station that they can't completely destroy through directed incompetence.

Seriously...does anyone ever travel to markets and yearn for what they will be able to hear when they arrive? Am sure people also feel that way about Seattle...

"K-J-R Seattle/Channel 95.7......"

THAT is what's missing.

This "Oldies 95.7" brand is LAME. DOG LAME. POSER LAME.

Bring back the "KJR-FM" brand. Then we'll talk about making it worth listening to.

Yes, they have Bob Rivers. They have Steve Slaton. KJR-FM can be a TOTAL powerhouse. They just have to let the jocks have the FREEDOM to make KJR-FM the TRUE classic rock station it COULD be. Instead of neutering them into some generic oldies crap where the ratings are only there just because of the pristine air talent they have Mornings and Afternoons.....

Could 95.7 survive the Holiday season WITHOUT Christmas music? Sure would be interested. It's pretty much dominated by KRWM. But KJR-FM DID score some interesting ratings last year during their own Holiday format last year.

Time will tell.......

(I just still can't imagine Steve Slaton playing Andy Williams seriously, without a note of sarcasm though.....)

Why don't you pick up the phone and tell that to Lisa Decker or John Peake?

It's a bit frustrating. THis "Bob Rivers and the Greatest hits of all time" format has turned into a nose picking yawner. Even Rivers has made a couple of subtle side comments about the promo end of it. Like many others, I was optimistic that when Slaton came on, that they would un-do the reins and let him rock it. It only took hearing Steve play one of those "greatest hits of all time" (Sugar Sugar from the Archies) to convince me that out of towners were running the show. No problem, but if you insist on running an ultra pop oldies format then it's best that you finish sanitizing the area all together and jetison the call letters along with the rest of it. I agree that KJR could be a killer in the market, especially since OK102 and a 1/2 is trying to find itself again.

They can't very well call the Oldies station KJR when the simulcast sports radio on an FM other than 95.7 now can they.

You casn CALL it anything you feel like. It's the PPM data that's in the balance.

The other day I tuned in just to see what's up and I heard Chicago, then The Doobie Brothers, then CCR. I mean, what are the odds of that?! WOW, it was totally sweeeet! Then I heard a Bob Rivers promo. Icing on the cake? I say yes.

OK, this time without sarcasm. The oldies programming and the branding of KJR-FM is a disaster in my opinion. It's totally boring radio. Sure, they may be getting a decent share... but it's going to be a share of a smaller and smaller pie if this is what commercial radio is coming to (unless PPMs are limited to waiting rooms only). There are too many better options, including my ipod. I'm glad to see that KMCQ, with all its shortcomings, is posting some significant numbers.

KJR plays the greatest hits? Damn I didn't know the greatest hits of the 60s-80s consisted of roughly 27 songs.

If THEY couldn't have figured it out by NOW. As if THEY actually SOUND like THEY were the ONLY geniuses to EVER come up with a patently GENERIC "Oldies 95.7" slogan. Who am I to argue? If that's the way they want to run a radio station, fine. And meanwhile, Sirius/XM is STILL in business. And so is my i-Phone.

I just TOLERATE this CRAP on 95.7 MHz and a few other FM frequencies (for a few minutes at best.) Daily. Just to get to some FREE local traffic reports. Yes the M-3 out of Brisbane is VERY cruel. But I-5 out of Seattle, north and south and I-90 east to west. Always hell on weekdays......

Even just to quickly catch on what I just missed on KOMO a few seconds earlier.......Thanks to everybody at "Oldies 95.7" for that much. Otherwise, I just don't care anymore about what it's playing. It's just an excuse to flip around anywhere for something better. It's just like CALL LETTERS. No one here can explain why KWJZ flipped their call letters to KLCK-FM. ALL I've been told was call letters were irrelevant.

So be it.....

They obviously stole "Oldies 95.7" from the very creative slogan we developed several years ago in Aberdeen, which was "Oldies 105.7"!

Even today, the old KJR Seattle Channel 95 (point 7) would play well. And even today, thousands are familiar with the call and the slogan.
