Lost television episodes

this site claims to have lost television episodes of legend of jesse james, the nurses, the schlitz playhouse they say they have the only existing copies on entertaineteria.com how can that be? i'm a little skeptical

OOPS! Overlooked the little devil. Sorry.

I thought that might be one of a number of scammers out there that has a nasty habit of not fulfilling their orders but I am not familiar with this particular site.

If I read their offering correctly they are looking for pledges, not payment, to make certain eps available. That seems reasonable to me but, as always, use a credit card which you can then dispute should the material never arrive.

Lost episodes have always interested me.

As in, were they really "lost", or destroyed for whatever reason.

I'm sure early episodes of some shows were recorded over, as this was common as to storage and video cassettes taking up space and expense. My understanding is the problem was worse in NYC, with limited storage areas. Even the ancient Kinescopes sometimes were lost, again for whatever reason. However, I am of the opinion that tv shows are like books. Everything should be saved.

Also of note might be the loss or unavailability of original 35mm air prints (not to
mention the original negatives, too).

This morning's 12 O'Clock High (season 3/in color) on Me TV (2 AM ET/PT) was a
35mm print, however earlier in the week a season 3/in color episode aired from a
16mm reduction print. Does Twentieth Century Fox--or whoever is distributing the
reruns--not have the "masters" of all the 12 O'Clock High episodes?

All the episodes are safe and sound at 20th - most likely when they put these broadcast tapes together, they used whatever material was handy.

There was an episode of THE MONKEES - "Alias Micky Dolenz" that for years the syndication prints came from a 16mm, not a 35mm but when the Box set of VHS episodes and DVD were put together, the episode was there from 35mm
