Times sure have changed. Midwestclubber is usually the first to point out the difference between disposable Dance/Pop and the more credible stuff.
I think it's just b/c it's an exciting time with CHR radio, especially in the bigger markets. We enjoy hearing uptempo/high energy crossover stuff on Top 40 radio, and there's been a lot of great (though disposable material) on that end.
I'd rather listen to Britney's "Three" (one of her best releases) on a CHR station than to hear some half assed remix of it on a US-based Dance station.
Gotta give props to stations like Energy 98.1 - they play a lot of really good and accessible Dance music. They also have one of the best libraries in the world as far as Dance stations go. I like that they don't play anything too old, but rather stuff from the past 10 years that still sounds good with all the currents they play. For example, they'll thrown in an older title like "Take It" from Tom Novy, and play new stuff like Dash Berlin's "Waiting". In short, it's right up my alley as far as Dance hits go.
Like DJ Perry, I too am loving the stuff from LMFAO, I like Kid Cudi's collaboration with Sharam of Deep Dish, loving David Guetta's collaborations with Pop artists, and gotta admit that Pitbull's latest "Shut It Down" is very tight.
