Lotsa jobs in Central Pa

Over the last few days there have been a lot of ads on allaccess for jobs in Central Pa. A PD gig at Cumulus WARM, on air & production at Citadel Harrisburg and a few other things, too. Did people leave on their own to create these vacancies or were they flushed out?

What on-air jobs are listed?

It's kind of pathetic when two job openings over this entire tri-city region are considered "lotsa."

How many talented, experienced radio people around Harrisburg-York-Lancaster are unable to find work in the broadcasting field?

Lotsa.

Technically, there are "Lotsa jobs in Central Pa." Manufacturing, retail,
general labor, clerical, nursing, etc.

Are you still spinnin' those AC hits down in Charm City?

Again, because of constant downsizing, dumbing down of air talent, salaries that today are worse than they were 10 years ago...Central P-A Radio is dead, dead, dead. There are two "significant" job openings. So what. Neither job will pay what they should and both will require a ton of work and long hours. It's all part of the dumbing down process that has been building for 20, 25 years? There are no training grounds anymore, no small markets to start out in. Jocks are now sharpening their talent in medium market radio. Many of them are making fools out of themselves in the process, thinking they are doing something special on air, something they would've done in a small market. Years later they would've relaized that those "hip bits" they did on the air were just plain lame and thank the Lord they were done in small radio markets. Now, those lousy bits are being done in a medium market. Is' no wonder that today's medium market radio sounds horrible.....filled mostly with dull 20-something jocks making a whopping 22-grand a year.

Yes, thank you for asking, though we're still in Christmas mode. WLIF is now streaming on-line at 1019litefm.com. You know what there are always "lotsa" job openings for? Truck drivers! You'll never go hungry if you can drive a truck. Crazy maybe, but not hungry.

Whew! That's quite a rant. The absence of a small market radio farm system (and the elimination of overnight and weekend gigs) has been discussed here before, but we'll not be seeing the clock turned back on that score. So you're right; people who haven't honed their skills where it doesn't matter are now honing them where it does, sometimes with lame results. Not long ago I listened to an area morning team - which shall be nameless - who went a full 25 minutes without playing a single song, so wrapped up as they were in an unfunny bit that was played out after about 7 minutes. The bit ended, by the way, with the female sidekick screaming "You son-of-a-b***h" at the male host, amidst a chorus of cackling laughter from the peanut gallery. Now that's (dreadful) entertainment! And when did SOB become acceptable on-the-air language? I must've missed that memo. Unfortunately, these people were merely representing the overall coarseness and lack of language skills common to our American society. That, however, is a rant for another day.

We should launch a Central PA-centric internet radio station...

Sure. Almost everything we buy was brought to the store via truck.
