Either poor pre-sell, or no demand.
what's your call?

Eh, they're new. Give 'em time.

This is over the air on AM 1200, right, and not the webstream?

1.) It's hard to pre-sell when you don't have a track record, unless you are basically giving it away, in which case, it's probably not even worth the effort.

2.) They probably have not even had a sales staff.

3.) There were no ratings to sell..and probably won't be, for what?...another month? (And even then, they are building an audience from scratch...literally starting from zero...so don't expect much from the first year of ratings....especially if there is no outside promotion.)

4.) They have no morning show in place, which is where a majority of their money will be made....and will "anchor" the station locally.

5. They launched 3 weeks earlier than planned.

Actually, I heard a local ad for the first time, last night...something like "Suffolk jewelry and pawnshop"!!!
I guess they want to pitch to the high-end ad market right from the start! ;D ;D ;D

I've heard them run that jewelry ad for several days now...
Lots of PSAs were heard during 1200's Air America days, too :)

During their first wk on air, I recorded Sean Hannity on cass with a mini boombox and noted, not for
the first time, how many ads/breaks there were. Subtract the news breaks, ads, PSAs, and how much program content is there? During the Hannity show, there are a bunch of spots nr the bottom of the hour
then Sean is back on --for maybe 45 seconds, to plug what was coming up, then more spots!

Also notice on Howie's show especially 6 pm hour, he breaks at about :50, then after a bunch of spots
is back for just a minute or so when it's time for TOH. Almost like, at 6:50, not worth staying tuned because there isn't too much left after the spots...or maybe they just "ran late" with a guest, so not much time left...

That could be a number of things!
That might be a spillover make-good from Kiss or Jam'n. Although, I can't imagine a situation where a spot on either of those would be pre-empted. Or, its possible those advertisers bought a package to be heard on all stations owned by Clear Channel in market. Listen to the other AM station and tell if that spot is running too? I bet it is! Could also be left over from the previous format, and perhaps not all spots that were sold were in Spanish.
