Lottery Commercial With "More Than A Feeling"

So, in my area, the New York Lottery is airing TV and radio spots promoting the fact that their state is now part of the PowerBall drawing. And the song being used in these spots is Boston's "More Than A Feeling." My question: I can't tell if it's only the New York Lottery using that song in their ads, or other states that are part of the PowerBall drawing. For example, if you're in Georgia, are you seeing/hearing lottery ads with this song in it?

I think I know what you're talking about. Is it that commercial where some guy jumps into a pool of red and yellow balls (kinda like what kids can do at Chuck E. Cheese's)? I saw that earlier today!

Yep, that's the one! It debuted locally during the commercial break right before the halftime show of the Super Bowl. So it is airing in Iowa (or wherever you happen to be located)?

In Connecticut, we recently started selling Mega Millions. Our ad was basically a shot of the Hartford skyline with the big gold Mega Ball taking the place of the rising sun. The song mentioned is not in the ad, as far as I know.

A couple of thoughts...

First, the Mega Millions/Powerball exclusivity apparently has ended within states. This is happening all over the US with many states all of a sudden running both big jackpot games. Evidently, the two major parties have reached an agreement that "more is better".

As for Boston's "More Than A Feeling", I'm not surprised. What was once considered a rock song is now considered mainstream adult contemporary, and is indeed being played by some AC stations. Funny how time changes the texture of a record.

Not quite "all of a sudden" -- it was in the works since last October, when both Powerball and MM signed an agreement to make both games available in each state that offers them. This all actually started, though, last March, then the New Jersey Lottery, already promoting MM, expressed desire to join Powerball, alongside MM.

This spot runs on the Country station I am PD for, and EVERY time I listen in for a spot check and hear the song I think my station just changed format and I got fired.

LMAO bmprfg! :D

It's no secret that even stations like New York's "Lite-FM" have been playing this song for years!

Anyways...not every state has both games just yet. Here in New England, Maine won't be getting Mega Millions until April (they have PowerBALL now). They have some sort of issue involving gaming within the state. I think it's involving a slot parlor they have in Bangor?

If Wikipedia is to be believed, all states that have Powerball or MM now will have both by the end of the year, except for Florida (a Powerball state), as they have yet to decide whether or not to have both games.

I kind of liked the old concept of a state having one or the other, as it would promote nearby state residents to cross the border if there was a big jackpot in one of the games. But I guess it is progress...no wait, greed, that initiated the change. Now more folks in every state can throw their money away.

Pat Benatar's "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" and John Mellencamp's "Hurts So Good" and "Jack and Diane" have also become AC airplay staples in recent years.
