Lou Dobbs Leaving CNN Effective Immediately

This was expected. He is talking with Fixed Noise. I am surprised he left so soon though. Announced he is leaving...said goodbye...and took off.

At least CNN is out of the opinion ring, and I hope they stay out for good. Hopefully, CNN will find something that works out.

Here is a video of Dobbs' farewell:

And here is the final guest he had on for an interview on his CNN show - fittingly enough, a man who is defending conservative talk radio from the Catholic Church:

Alls I can say is... Very interesting, considering Anita Dunn, the White House Communications Director who has recently become a public critic of Fox News, announced yesterday that she would be stepping down... They say that these things come in threes... Boy, who's next tomorrow?

Not sure Dobbs will land at any cable network, because CNN has been offering tributes to him this evening. Why would they do that if he was headed to the competition? Just wonderin'...or perhaps it is just pure respect, something one wouldn't expect in the cable news industry.

Fox Business was quoted in an article as saying they were "not talking" with Dobbs.

Then again, an article about Dobbs' resignation from the Fox-run Wall Street Journal referred to his current radio show as a "financial" show, which clearly it is not, at least the incarnation that launched last year...

Come to think of it, maybe he can run some website about astronomy, too...

Not only does the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz - a colleague of John King, alternating as hosts on Sunday mornings on CNN - report King replacing Dobbs weeknights, but the following paragraph jumped out at me:

King will continue as host of "State of the Union," a job he assumed in January, until early next year. He has visited 44 states for field reports for the program while also interviewing a traditional mix of newsmakers, including President Obama...

"Until early next year?" So King's Sunday morning hosting duties are only temporary? I thought he was doing an admirable job. Here's my question, if King is indeed leaving "State of the Union," who takes his place?

I normally don't watch Lou Dobbs but checked to see who/what will be replacing his show. Wolf Blitzer continued with the Situation Room.

Now reading L.A. Times.com saying that John King will replace Dobbs.

Objectively, siding with the "birther" movement put Lou into the camp of the 'radical right"

I hope this isn't what ended his TV show. Lou was just asking questions.

Even though it's confusing for some folks, it's important for everyone to understand that questioning our government does not make a person a "radical."

We are allowed to question our government.

I agree with this totally. However , each cable network is entitled to create whatever image they want and Lou's right-wing views , I believe, were out of step with CNN's alleged "centrist" programming.

'K? :)

Ironically, didn't CNN hire a second-rate comedian not too long ago to do a Saturday night news/comedy show? How funny would that be (figuratively, of course) if John King ends up being replaced on Sunday mornings by Hughley! (Howard Kurtz referred to King hosting the Sunday show "through early next year.")

Also, CNN ran a promo for a "photojournalist" special that will air at 7 PM ET tonight.

Conservatives do not consider Lou Dobbs to be a member of the tribe. He holds some very populist (and dare I say, at times, progressive) views on economic issues. That being said if he gets a job with Fox I do not think that their conservative audience is going to demand 100% orthodoxy from him the way CNN seemed to do.

Sorry - I don't think "The Tribe" will have any problem accepting Dobbs as a "member." It's true that he's been very critical of large corporations - but it's mostly because those large corporations have no trouble employing illegal immigrants (i.e: low cost labor) or opening factories off-shore. But if you'll notice, the "tea party" types are not generally affluent, and they are angry as hell about the government bail-outs of the banks and AIG. So this fits in quite well with Lou's agenda.

Besides, I don't think 'the tribe' is concerned about total obedience to all of the same conservative views, and Dobbs is very adept at tapping into their anger. That's what makes him such a lightening rod for controversy.

It's easy to predict that Dobbs will end up at Fox News...maybe after talking a few months off.

D.L. Hughley has an agenda, but he is on once a week at 11 PM on Saturday night (might be Sunday, sorry) This hardly 7PM Monday-Friday !
