Lou Riggiero gone from KPNX?

TVSpy reports Lou gone from 12.Don't care for the "why", just wondering if the thread is true.I like his style of reporting.Seems so down in the dirt.If he's going across the street, some ND did some good.If he's retiring, than I give Lou a tip of the hat and say thanks.

IIRC, he was on yesterday's newscasts. No mention of it on AZCentral either. If he is leaving, it hasn't happened yet.

He's doing a live report as I write this (10:05 PM on 6/8/06). Obviously he still works at KPNX. :D

Thank goodness! Lew is arguably the best reporter in Phoenix. I actually like gray hair on hard news reporters! Meanwhile, I am listening to what must be the stupidest 12 News promo yet: "When we say a story is next, it WILL be next. WE PROMISE!" What a great follow-up to "Two Different People, One Great Newsteam". ::)

The news guy (I forget his name) at KOOL-FM this morning said that Ruggerio is in fact leaving Channel 12, but I'm not sure for where. I can't find any confirmation on this, though.

Friday's AZ Republic has an article about Lew's departure. It states:"He declined to comment on his departure from the station or his plans."

Thats a bummer.Lew was a throwback to when local news wasn't aimed at 6th grade dropouts. He must have used too many 3 syallable words in his reports.

Kent and Catherine did a "good luck, Lew" tribute tonight during the 10pm, at CBS5.Very classy.Curious if any other shop did the same, other than 12.

Lew gave his final report on the 10 pm newcast last night. There were farewwell clips in the middle of the show. And at end of the newscast, he was at the desk with Lin Sue, Bruce and night's on-air staff saying goodbye. He was asked if he would gave an "A" or "B" to a student who had a 89 grade or go by the curve by Bruce. He said he did not have a job and basically he would miss not getting paid?He is a great reporter and not just a hair piece with makeup. I will miss him and hope he is going somewhere else in the Valley. And Channel 12 loses another...Kent Dana, Mary Kim Titla, etc.

Saw the tributes on both 5 and 12. 5's was actually better IMO. I'm sure Kent Dana was behind the idea and hats off to the station management for allowing it. I agree: it was classy.Channel 10 didn't have anything about Ruggiero and <sarcasm>I'm not sure the news staffs at channels 3 or 15 even know who Lew Ruggiero is.</sarcasm>

Is it a 12 News issue -- or a general problem with local news these days? My cousin, a photojournalist in Seattle, says that it's the news management's propensity to hire young, blonde, and cheap these days.I still miss Mary Kim. I understand that she was about to be promoted to weekend am anchor. Too bad! I believe that she would have done well.

all 3 are the norm today, although ash-blonde is fine too. It's all about one-man banding. You have to be able to shoot, report, and go-live at the touch of a button. Channel 12 (where Lou called home) is currently in the process of putting a few one-man banders out in the field soon. It's unfortunate for people like Riggero, who grew up with the traditional photographer-to-reporter-to-producer-to-air... food chain of news. These days, you shoot in the field, you edit in the field, your write in the field, you go live from the field. and that's you, and only you!A reporter who can't shoot, should be afraid...very afraid!
