Loudcity questions

If looks like loudcity has raised their basic hobby broadcast rate from about 21.00 per month to 34.00. Is this correct.

Also, it looks like now you need to use their stream and bandwith for netcasting. I thought before you could use your own.

Also when you sign up. Do you set up you own audio quality? How does that work?

Other than live 365 is anyone else offering a license compliant service like Loudcity.

Thanks

The Hobby packages have gone up a little in price....They now include stream hosting as well as license coverage for whatever streaming package you wish to use.....You may choose multiple bitrates within a single package....For example, if you chose the 25 listener package, you could have 5 slots at 32k, 10 slots at 64k, and 10 slots at 128k, or maybe just have all of the slots at one single bitrate....The choice is up to you.

You do not need to use their hosting, though....There is still the option to have your stream hosted elsewhere and still be covered by a Loudcity license.....It's all explained on this page and the subsequent links: http://community.loudcity.com/broadcast

The money that you pay to LoudCity ONLY covers the listeners that tune in via your LoudCity media player. If it's outside the box, they don't cover it.

This isn't an accurate statement.....Listeners are given the option to listen to your stream with an external player.....If they were to bookmark your station in Winamp, for example, you would still be covered each time they connect.

I attempted to correspond with LoudCity regarding a high school station that's I'm serving as tech advisor. It appears they couldn't be bothered to even give me any information (and yes, I emailed them a couple of times and still got no response). It looks like I'm taking their business over to Live365 - at least they have people who actually return emails AND even call you!

I'd love to hear from people who have had a positive experience with LoudCity because I be quite frank, they don't seem like business-minded people - if you can't even perform pre-sales customer relations how the hell do they keep people who are brave enough to actually sign up with them?

All the posts I see regarding high school stations were responded to fairly in depth by the community in the forums......I don't see thread that was just left hanging.

Personally, I've had a really sweet experience with LoudCity....My station has gained listeners through their new community portal and, unlike Live365, I don't have to be subjected to forced in-stream advertising.

Nope, the stream MUST be launched from the Loudcity website, if you're a hobby customer, I believe it's their player, however if you're a pro customer (as I am), you must launch from either their website but you can use your own web pages etc, or from Shoutcast or Audiorealm etc. It also allows you to be launched, if lucky from iTunes and Windows Media pages.

That's a shame, my own experience has been nothing more than stellar. All my queries (not that many) get answered, commercially I've found them quite responsive and not greedy. I found the whole thing less restrictive than when I was with Live 365. Who/what did you email?

I emailed LoudCity regarding information such as being able to accomodate the school district's purchase orders and some other general inquiries regarding their service that the Board of Education station's administrative committee wanted answered. It looks like they're operating out of a garage since all they have is a PO Box for a contact address and no phone number. How many times does one attempt to contact these people? I never receive any response to multiple queries, so I can only assume they have no wish to add paying clients to their rolls. Live365 took our inquiry seriously and while they are more expensive and restrictive than LoudCity at least Live365 has customer service and support.

If LoudCity wants to prove to me they're move than a joke they can start by answering the inquiries I've made.

Bill - We're sorry about the communication trouble. I handle pre-sales questions for LoudCity and I have not received any communication from you since April of this year. I'll investigate things on our end in case messages from you are being blocked by a spam trap somewhere.

To address other concerns you mentioned, LoudCity offers *affordable* royalty coverage. To keep costs low, we don't maintain a brick and mortar facility and we don't maintain a large staff. We're not sorry about that - we do what we need to do in order to keep our prices affordable for the hobbyist while providing an acceptable level of support for our customers. Nothing's perfect, and you can't please everyone - so if LoudCity isn't a good fit for you, we understand and wish you the best.

Hi,

Thanks for addressing my concerns and problem. The last inquiry I sent was on 8/31/2005 at 8:18am as I copied it to my personal email address to make sure things actually got sent. Since I don't have access to my full office email I can't tell you offhand what the previous sent dates were, but I can certainly supply this information if you need it.

Is there a better method to contact your firm or a better email address? Feel free to PM me if needed. The school district would love to have a couple of competetive quotes for services so I would still be interested in finding out how LoudCity can work for them.

It appears LoudCity & Live365 might be the only ones left standing.

Unless things have changed since I was a customer back in April hobby casters were able to be listed in shoutcast, audio realm, itunes, etc. However no one was covered to launch from their website. Pro customers are able to customize loudcity pages to keep the look and feel of the broadcaster's website.

Yes, they changed the hobby package to include streaming capacity (using Icecast). Pro customers can make their own streaming arrangements.

We've been a LoudCity station for almost a year. They've always been most helpful and prompt. I like them a lot.

I especially like the community feedback pages where people can sign in and leave comments and you can get in touch with listeners. We get a lot comments from folks using LoudCity as a source to reach us.

I also appreciate the way they kept stations informed and fairly calm during the July 15th hubub.
