Introducing the new Power 104.3,, coming soon to a radio near you......Thank goodness,, I thought it was a mistake to flip the former Hot 104.. Looks like Radio One realizes that they should stick to Urban, since its what seems to work for them....

Radio One is back in Louisville??? POWER 104.3/WWPW is listed under ownership by Radio Multi-Media Inc. I remember Radio One selling all of it's Louisville stations and 104.3 was bought by Way-FM in 2007.

This is good news. However, I have a feeling that WWPW will be more Urban/Hip-Hop than Rhythmic now that they will put Rickey Smiley in Mornings. IMHO I think they should've gone with Big Boy's Neighborhood.

I think this is great news to hear! Glad to finally see an urban station signing on the airwaves, instead of signing off.

Ew Big Boy ... will not work in a Southern style market. Lville is crunk/country-urban... A west coast-east coast style morning show will not work, much like in New Orleans.

I LOVED WBLO that station was hard core hip hop back then, I only have a few airchecks. One of my most fav. stations. But we'll see how this works. Is Power a R1 station??????????? Who owns 104.3

Word! Why don't you hook up a brother with a copy of those WBLO airchecks. I always wanted to hear that station, but never had a chance to.

Big Boy is done in the South. Everybody down here that carried him switched to Rickey Smiley or went back to live/local mornings.

According to the article that was posted on Radio-Info, Rene Moore (formally of the 1980's R&B duo Rene & Angela) is the owner of WWPW Power 104.3. He also owns WNOV AM 860 and it's translator 102.5 in Milwaukee.

You guys are all correct.. The format will be Urban,, I just posted it here cause the Urban board tends to discuss Urban AC more.. Your also correct,, I should have made this more clear,, R1 does not own it,, but like I said,, I bet they are kicking themselves now.. Hot 104 was one of the best Hip Hop stations I ever heard,, It wasnt conservative at all, and they played no R&B,, not that R&B,, POP and Dance is bad,, but we need more stations that play just the Hip Hop.. Keep the Dance and POP on their sister CHR stations, and keep the R&B on their Sister UAC.. I like all this music so im not knocking any of it,, its just nice to have a pure Hip Hop station. I have the same problem with a CHR that leans too rhythmic,, I just think stations should stick to their guns and play what they are supposed too. ;)

Correction, I meant 104.3 The Beat instead of Power. Don't think they have that much Power to crank out on that signal ;D

Well actually their signal is a bit better than their comp. However it is farther away.

Have you listed to WIHB in Charleston? Formerly B92 Now 92.5 The Box. Nice New Urban. about 80% Hip Hop 20% R&B

Yeah.... its a better station than Z-93 Jamz, which Sucks... I liked the old B-92.5, but it just wasnt performing too well considering their massive signal... Well Chucktown has 95 SX for CHR,, so I guess a true Hip Hop station was needed. I hope THE BOX,, will realize they can be a little more edgy being in the dirty south,, Hopefully they Think Outside the BOX...Pun Intended... ;D

The call letters WWPW-FM, but the station is called 104.3 THE BEAT? Different, but OK I guees

Down in Chucktown (Charleston,SC) the new 92.5 THE BOX was much needed! The long time #1 Z93 JAMZ has always been in need of some good competition. Clear Channel tried, so did another local owner but nobody was able to bring Z93 down. Finally, it looks like a good ol' radio war has started. Can't wait to see the morning numbers once Rickey Smiley jumps on. Also, the PM nighttime numbers since Chucktown's own Charlamagne Da God is back.

I figured it would be Power based on the format and calls. And Louisville seriously needed another Urban.. This can give B-96 some Compitition which is needed, and now 98.9 Kiss Fm and 99.7 WDJX, can continue to be a full balanced CHR, or maybe DJX can even go back to leaning on Dance.

Exactly, Hip Hop needs to stay Hip Hop. too much R&B, the UAC's can handle that segment. But remmber, Urban's P1 is *STILL* F 25-54 which is why they blend R&B into them. No one ever realizes that M 18-34 spend a hell alot of money as well but the sales staff and marketers of these stations dont understand how to sell the format.

I have a few req's for airchecks but haven't had time to make them yet. I'll keep you on the waiting list, but hopefully things will finnally open up in my schedule soon where I can have some free time, and set up my email for the radio boards. Eventually I want to get all of my airchecks archived in MP3. I've just been wondering how to burn a 90 Min tape onto a 74min cd ???

In response to a question about the Louisville, KY-IN market I received, here are some population figures from the 2010 Census Estimates:

Louisville SMSA (11 Counties in KY and IN)-1,305,000
Louisville CMSA (13 Counties in KY and IN)-1,420,550 (including adjacent Hardin Co., KY and Scott Co., IN micropolitan areas)
Estimated African-American population in Louisville SMSA-193,000
Estimated African-American population in Louisville CMSA-220,000 (incl. Fort Knox and adjacent communities)

Thanks. I'm looking forward to hearing them. Try Goldwave to transfer your tapes to cd.
