You're right about SHE.. Karen is PD @ u93 in South Bend.. Nikki is out of radio and Jason works in radio in FL... MIX 102 had Leesa Mitchell, now middays at Magic 101... Ric Owen, now middays @ SFR... Rebecca Lake did nights and then middays.. Then Rebecca did middays till the HAWK switch... Rebecca was on nights on 1005 LOUIE-FM until recently. MIX also had Nikki Lilly at one time and Kirsten Beharrel, a british girl who did nights. Ohh yeah, Kelly K came to Louisville to do middays at MIX 102.. she was Rebecca's replacement when she went to the HAWK.. Kelly does mornings with Peter B on DJX now...

The HAWK had Rebecca Lake, Dennis Hill, Brad Bell (now nights @ WAMZ), Rob Davis (Nights @ WRKA), John Ramsey was there for a while...

My first on air gig was actually at 989 the HAWK... 3 good stations... may they all 3 rest in peace! :)

Wow, thanks guys! I had no idea that Kelly K was on MIX. And Mike Marshall, what other stations has he been on?

I know he did weekends at mix 102 for a while, not sure where else he's been...

Does anyone remember one of the more memorable moments on louisville radio well it was back right after rock 102 flipped to mix 102 after there stunting of the countdown with new year brings new radio station it was done right after christmas quite a few years ago anyways they started this pillow talk show you know a love songs show and ron michaels was working(he was on rock 102) i believe and he started a barry manilow song and he came on and said i can't do this and played another song very funny.

rebecca lake did "Pillow Talk" for a while too... during the last part of MIX's life they did the "Retro Night Mix" a cool disco/80s dance show with "kirsten" the british chick...

Do you remember HITS 105.9?

I remember hits 105.9 i believe dave forget his last name with cox programmed it and i believe pru miller was on there. But my favorite radio station louisville ever had was at 105.9 q2 wqnf, wqmf sister station back then.A awesome alternative station which louisville really needs now we lack a alt station.Wfpk is fine but skew to old for my taste but do play some tunes i like. Remember how 105.9 was an 80s station for awhile then when salem bought it i remember them playing the same 13 or so 80s songs till they flipped it to christian rock. Thank god 80s stations are becoming a thing of the past all they play especially with cox rdaio is the top tier of 80s songs like i ran by flock of sea gulls never would you here space age love song a very poorly programmed station when they were 80s.Whats wrong with the smiths how soon is now?Any town i have been in that plays 80s plays that song.

Yeah Dave Michaels (?) I think was the guy from COX that did HITS, Pru did middays, I don't remember who did nights or mornings.. the station was pretty short lived... I remember those last days as the 80's RIVER when they did the same songs over and over and over again while Cox was selling it to Salem, before the was CCM.

Yes I have finally landed somewhere....THANK GOD!!!!

I was there as a sales person. We switched on New Years Day. Appropriately, I was throwing up all night due to a virus and then heariing "This is it" by Kenny Loggins as the first song of the station. What a nightmare!

I worked at Hits 105.9 as an AE and fill in jock. Dave Smith is the real name of the PD. He is now GM of Channel 9 TV in southern Indiana. We had a pretty good thing going, except for a weak signal. Then the coporate folks at Cox interceded and it went straight downhill. Worked for Cox for 14 years and finally escaped 4 years ago. I'll never go back to radio, and that's sad.

Is that why you have XM in your name?

Hi Doug,

As you well remember, Cox came into this market 12 years ago last month, and you didn't work for them in any other market. So perhaps you worked for Cox 7 or 8 years, but not 14.

I don't recall anyone in the building lamenting the death of WHTE, the world's worst call letter combination. (WHITE? HATE?) That was a station that was clearly doomed once Jacor launched WMHX on 103.9's far superior signal.

And if memory serves, we had a really good year in 1998 with the "trombo" of RKA/River/Soul. I'm pretty sure that was our best year with Cox in that building. "Straight downhill"? I'm thinking not.

Good one Greg, Doug XM cant' count...and he said he was a sales person at one...maybe that explains why he's not in radio and won't go back...he's over it I guess. maybe that's why he hangs around the radio board and writes crap about an industry that he couldn't make it in...good show dougXM!

Actually I think Doug made it quite well in radio. After several years he left radio on his own terms and got the party at the end. How many people who have ever done radio sales can say that?

Greg, thanks for the correction, meant WRKA for 14 years. Nothing personal, still love you guys over there, just not Cox. As far as not making it in radio. not gonna blow my own horn. My record stands for itself. And as you know, God and Family are the most important things we can "make" it in anyway. Now I am a Regional Internet Sales Manager for Raycom media with 7 stations reporting to me including WAVE. I've been truly blessed. Yes, I am an XM'er. Done with Freebird and Stairway to Heaven and enjoying actual segways again!
I wish everyone in commercial radio well, my first love and probably always will be. Signing off for good.

Hey Know it all, why the nasty tone? If 20 total years in the radio business, as a jock, production manager, salesperson, Regional Sales Manager, Local Sales Manager, National Sales manager and Internet sales manager means I didn't make it, so be it. And you are right, I shoudn't hang around this board when I'm not in the biz anymore, just happened on it when a friend mentioned it. 90% of my experiences in Radio were great, it just so happened that 10 % soured me at the end. So I leave you all, hope with no hard feelings. Blessings!

Sadly, all you have to do is read some of the postings from bitter, twisted & jaded "radio" people to know why the industry is in such a bad place. DougXM voices his opinions and the dogs are on him. Nice. :-[
