Louisville radio visit

My wife and I visited kentucky for a week over the holidays. Gotta admit, not much to choose from. The Fox didn't even come in. BAD signal. Was hoping to hear Mudd in the Morning.

I enjoyed WFPK the most. Some guy was live late at night. Cool show. The other station I liked was WMGG when it aired Tradio. It's out of Brandenburg.

I guess i prefer small town radio these days over voice-tracks and the same Aerosmith song over and over.

Oh and Gen X radio wasn't too bad. The female voice-tracked air talent was annoying though. The music was pretty decent!

Out of curiosity, where were you staying when you tried to listen? WTFX is a Class A signal, so it's not going to bang out long distances like the B's do.

Amazing the change in the radio landscape since our days at LRS.
In the early 90's, WLRS and 970AM WAVG were operated for the same building (800 S 4th St?). WLRS had recently stopped rockin' & went to some soft sappy garbage. A new owner bought WAVG and I was in charge of removing the studio equipment from that building & taking it across the river and re-installing it...this all happened in 8 hours overnight. Having never been in the WLRS studio, I stuck my head in the door, thought of all the great radio that came out of that room, walked back to the room where my work was focused & fought back the tears. What a sad experience seeing WLRS being turned into a soft love song station. I think I still have my Rock 102 Pure Rock & Roll T-Shirt that Lisa Lyons sent me. And I do still have numerous cassettes of Rock 102 from the late 80's. It was quite a station...kinda like a white boy's rock-40 format that was just what my ears were craving.

Not long after rock 102 morphed into mix 102 they added a lovesongs show called pillow talk this was in jan 1 1991 remember the puter new year brings new radio station to 102.3 fm anyways on the pillow talk show they played a barry manilow song well a little bit of it n then the dj came on n said i cant do it and did not play the whole tune.Do nto know who it was but it was funny.

I do have to say though i think 102.3 worst incarnation ever has to be the love 102.3 format in summer of 1999 when they blew up lrs and flipped it to all love songs!!!Hey kids you can here a sample at www.lkyradio.com

Mr lindsey has been at the 102.3 frequency for sometime now. Aside from the brief lrs days from 97 to summer of 99 he has been there almost 20 years i do believe.Just guessing but i know for over 10 years.

I like the max but could not stand love 102.3 n they stole linda lambert from light 106.9. But i like quicksie better they are a little more liberal with there playlist then the max.Guess you can do that in smaller markets.Like i ahve heard quicksie play tori amos before n better christmas music.
