Louisville Ratings (8-10-15)

Here are the latest ratings for Louisville:

WRKA seems to be on the rise, which sort of makes question all of "Jamz 103.9" rumors... they're certainly doing better WQNU. I have no idea what the audience looks like for WQNU vs. WRKA but I can't imagine they're that much different. The only real difference is that WQNU is in a better position to be relevant with a slightly younger audience. Maybe "Jamz 103.9" is part of some shuffle in which The Hawk sticks around at another frequency and somebody else is squeezed out, sort of like when WQNU moved from 103.9 to 103.1? Or maybe the Jamz is just a complete rumor that isn't going to happen at all. (This weekend could be very telling.)

Also, what is deal with AC/Hot AC? It seems to be falling across the board here, and the AC/Hot AC stations are the lowest rated FMs for iHeartMedia, Alpha, and Summit locally. MyFM never picked up at all and although The Max isn't on there this time, it seems that they have taken 105.1's position as Alpha's "ugly stepchild." And Lite 106.9 has tumbled from Summit's top station to their bottom one. In all fairness, The Max has sort of lost their touch now that George is gone (the morning show is a complete mess now that it is just Lynda and fill-in-the-blank, and they're sounding much more like a MyFM clone now... they used to be one of my main go-to stations but I find it mostly unlistenable anymore), and I can't quite figure out what is going on at Lite 106.9 with their addition of stuff that is classic hits, or dare I say "oldies" even... stuff that you'd usually only hear on WAKY. I'm starting to think 106.9 would be better off as just a Jack FM type station, that's sort of what they've become recently anyway it seems.

It could make for an interesting Labor Day weekend with potential changes, my predictions: hawk moves to 103.1, 790 shifts to all UK, and 103.9 flips to hip hop as jamz

WVEZ plays Def Leppard,Bon Jovi, and Aerosmith and they still call the station "Lite 106.9"
They really need a new name after 22 years.

They should call themselves Mix 106.9. Or even take the Louie name.

Reminds me 94.5 here in Lexington needs to be rebranded as Lite 94.5. They are very soft rock. Too soft I think. ;)

I don't know if you've been listening lately, but there has been more Bob Seger, Earth Wind and Fire, Doobie Brothers, Hall and Oates, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, etc. lately. I've been hearing Brown Eyed Girl from Van Morrison on there quite a bit recently too, that was from the 60s even. Of course, that is mixed with all of the current Hozier, Katy Perry, etc. stuff, making for an odd mix. Then, of course, you throw in the current country music that they play on there too...

I'm not necessarily saying it is a BAD thing. In fact, I would like the mix that they are playing if they could just throw out the country music, slightly reduce (not necessarily eliminate) the current stuff, and get a little broader on the older stuff they played. But for a long time, I thought the Lite 106.9 branding fit, even as they did start playing the Nickelback and such. Now, they've strayed much further and nobody really knows what they are anymore, aside from the station that will (probably) play Christmas music starting in less than two months.

Weird to think when we were all kids prior to spring of 86 106.9 was ez 107 and played muzak. Beautiful music they said.

I always said lite needs to be rebranded when will they do it. The lite branding makes no sense. There numbers took a tumble. I remember when connie willis use to be there in 89 now she use to fill in for coast to coast.

Will there be any changes in Louisville this weekend?

It doesn't look like it. If anybody was going to change, they probably would have done it yesterday afternoon (specifically 103.9, the only one I could have imagined changing).

Oddly enough, the stations I keep watching for changes are 95.1/97.9... the K-Love translators that simulcast 100.5's HD-2 signal. There is news seemingly every week about K-Love and Air1 translators in other markets in a similar situation (translators owned by EMF and receiving the signal from one of iHeartMedia's HD-2 signals) flipping to an iHeartMedia format, with Alt FM and The Beat being the most common.
