I've heard rumblings Clear Channel has flipped 100.5 WTFX to Variety Hits as "Louie 100.5".

Seeing it confirmed on All-Access that WTFX' Rock format has moved to 93.1 in the market while 100.5 stunts with a few "Louie" songs.
______________

Does the Jazz solely land at 101.7

It appears that the flip happened at noon... Looking at http://stoneage.yes.com, it looks like 100.5 stunted for two hours with the Louie Louie stuff before beginning with "Piano Man" by Billy Joel at 2:00 PM.

Tough one for The Fox getting shifted to a Class A station, but at least it didn't get knocked off entirely.
______________

Smooth Jazz is gone. The Fox is simulcast at 101.7, although you wouldn't know it from listening to 93.1 (except possibly for the legal ID, which I haven't heard yet).
______________

Very interesting... That means that things have changed from what All Access reported earlier:

ALL ACCESS hears that CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rocker WTFX (100.5 THE FOX)/LOUISVILLE, KY has moved down the dial to the 93.1 frequency occupied by Smooth Jazz WJZL (a simulcast with WJZO at the 101.7 frequency, which remains a Smooth Jazz outlet)

According to yes.com, 100.5 Louie FM began playing Variety Hits at 2 PM EDT today (Wednesday). Can you confirm that (or that it's at least finished stunting now)?
______________

Yes, I can confirm that. I was out on lunch and to run an errand for my client from about 1:15 to 2:15, so I did hear VH on 100.5 (specifically the Mellencamp and Collins songs; didn't hear any of the stunting between 12 and 2, though). I first noticed something was up when I tuned to 93.1 (which is rather scratchy in Shelbyville) and heard references to The Fox, and the DJ on air at the time said that only the frequency had changed.
______________

On a hunch, I tried throwing this link into my player to see if I could hear Louie, to no avail. Or if it worked, would I hear the relocated Fox?
______________

Heard the ID for The Fox: "This is WJZL Clarksville, WJZO Shelbyville - Fox Rocks". The show that the Fox is running right now still has 100.5 imaging.

I'm not really sure what Clear Channel is thinking by keeping the Fox calls on Louie and the Jazz calls on Fox. There's zero mention of 101.7 FM on The Fox now that even the legal ID doesn't include it.
______________

It's likely that the calls will be moved relatively soon. When a "surprise" move like this happens, often there's a delay while a call letter change is requested, and in this particular case a secondary call will be needed for the 101.7 signal (WFFX-FM, perhaps?)

I wonder what Mortenson's WLOU (Gospel 1350), also based in Louisville, thinks of 100.5 Louie FM? I mean, if 1160 WBOB was enough to make the Bob FM trimulcast change its name in Cincy, I wonder if Mortenson will give CC any static over this name? I'd doubt it, but I do wonder.

According to 100000watts.com, the calls WLUE are available, which would make sense for 100.5. But we'll see how it plays out.
______________

If I were Mortenson, I'd sell the rights to the WLOU call letters.

Clear Channel owns WFFX-AM, so getting WFFX-FM shouldn't be too difficult. Actually, it might be the only W_FX call letters they can get easily, since every combination from WAFX to WZFX is used in some fashion.

WLUE is probably the best choice for Louie. WLUI and WUIE (although that might be too close to WJIE) are up for grabs as well. 102.3 The Max's former call letters, WULV are also available.
______________
