Love 96.9/The Kats' Billboards!

For example, the one on I-85 S before the Statesville Ave. exit.

The illuminated board, with the picture of the indescribable Carrie Underwood!

Where, if any, are WSOCs' boards?

The Kat rules!

I love them. Why? Because they are simple: The Logo & The Artist.
I hate when "marketers" over think it.

You have got to be on the Clear Channel payroll. You used to take Lite over K now it's WKKT over WSOC. Give me a break.

Only radio geeks pay attention to Billboards.

Strictly from the marketing side-
On the boards that I have seen, the logo is too small.
While the artist pictures look good, it's a country station, and they play Carrie Underwood.
They're not really telling me anything I didn't already know. If I'd spent 10 minutes with the station, as an average listener, I'd already know they play Carrie along with Garth and the other artists on the boards.

They have got to be CC generic boards. Great example of what happens when you cut your local promotions/marketing teams and budgets.

Actually the new Adams’s Digital billboards on I-77 near Carowinds look better then my wide screen HD TV. My personal favorite is the Shoney’s board. The burger on the display looks tastier then what I can get in their restaurant.
I guess I’ve now turned into a digital video geek.

Are they just the artist's picture, name, and the station logo? If so they are CC generic, IIRC they put tons of these up around Columbia for WCOS.

Hey Mike,

I'm not on the CC payroll, & I've always taken Lite over K & The Kat over 'SOC.

Only Radio geeks pay attention to billboards?

Everybody pays attention to boards.

Far be it from me to defend anything that CC has or is doing, but Fitzy95 -- I'm confused! Are you suggesting that they put pictures of artists that they don't play on their billboards?

I know i am going blind BUT...If the video billboards have too much content it looks unreadable.

There was a "Charity Case" (Ace's band From Ace & Tj) billboard up for awhile that just looked awful!! I couldn't read it for nothing.

Anybody see it?

I agree Dirty girl. They stand out with their brightness, but the one I've seen on 77 Northbound above Carowinds seems to be undersized and tough to read when you're traveling 70mph in heavy traffic.

First off...pull over Yugoidar if you're going 70 you're speeding!

Okay enough of the yuks. There seems to be a lot of messages about Billboards here and that worries me. Why? Because this is RADIO. I can't remember the last time someone related a comment that was made on the air by their favorite radio personality.

I remember in the old days when I was just a kiddie going to grade school. Lunchtime conversation would usually get around to something our favorite 7-mid top 40 jock said the night before. That's what got me interested in radio in the first place.

So the challenge is to bring us something interesting, funny or whatever that was said on the radio. Is radio communicating? Are you listening or is it just on in the background?

The Kat might have billboards thats all fine. And Im sure WSOC puts some up but they don't really need to. I was at the Brad Paisley concert last summer at the Verizon Theater. WSOC 103.7 had this huge tent and music playing. While The Kat had a small little stand and tent for their station. But The Kat did have ads on the boards around the theater. But if your names on more of the theater why would the other country station look so much better at the concert. Plus WSOC 103.7 concert coverage was much better but I won't get into that as this is talking about billboards.

Yeah, I know...but I'm just trying to keep from getting run over, Officer Sheridan! If you on drive any of the Charlotte area Interstates, driving the speed limit makes you a sure candidate for a rear-end collision. I believe the speed limit in that area is 55, but very few seem to be driving at that speed.
