Love FM: Deja Vu??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Love FM essentially doing the "Jammin' Oldies" thing? Why does Guy Zapoleon feel this format has legs??
I liked Love FM a lot better when it was a more consistent, conventional Soft(er) AC.

Now they sound like WLIT minus Delilah, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" and Green Day.

My guess it's a "Lets see if we can grab some of the old Y 103-9 jammin oldies listeners while keeping some of our current listeners who like the Jammin stuff we already play"

I'm thinking its a test. They're still playing Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time and Ace - How Long so my guess is they're just seeing what happens with the ratings and if it doesn't work they can easily tweak back to what they were before.

They are hunting for a PD. http://www.wilv.fm/jobopportunities.php?id=1136584090

I love WLIT's reaction to it all. Its just plain funny.<P ID="signature">______________

Fact is, nobody was listening to Y-1039. The "Jammin' Oldies" format is an 18 month format, at best. What Chicago needs is a nice soft AC. I know Albany is far from Chicago, but they recently signed on a traditional soft AC there (wwww.albanymagic.com...i think) and their numbers are HUGE, 12+ and 25-54.

I'm kinda pissed Bonneville got suckered into falling for Zapoleon's sell.
Jammin' Oldies is far too niched. I don't get it...

I agree. I'm not all that happy about it either.

I'd love to hear a Soft AC like WTRV Grand Rapids or XM23 The Heart
http://www.yes.com/lookup.php?s=WTRV

Interestingly enough, WTRV does fairly well in the Grand Rapids market. Especially for a market that has 2 other AC outlets.

Knowing 100.3, they just may do it one day.

Here's the top 10 most played songs on WKLI/Albany (Magic 100).
I'd love to see a station in Chicago do this format.

1. Home-Michael Buble
2. Rise-Herb Alpert
3. Please Please Me-The Beatles
4. Downtown-Petula Clark
5. Sweet Caroline-Neil Diamond
6. Windy-The Association
7. To Sir With Love-LuLu
8. You Don't Have To Say You Love Me-Dusty Springfield
9. Time In A Bottle-Jim Croce
10. Smokey Mountain Rain-Ronnie Milsap

For Chicago, I'd throw in some 70's & 80's R&B ballads, but otherwise I would LOVE to hear this format in market 3. Didn't WILV have some good first trends with their original softer direction?

The hit the 2 mark for the first time in a long time. I'm gonna say their big marketing campaign helped. I got a postcard from them advertising the station and asking to fill it out and mail it back. (Not Impact Research. This was station promotion.) First time I ever seen something like that.<P ID="signature">______________

When Oldies was shown the door you were introduced to JACK. Now you are meeting his counterpart JILL. But JILL does not tend to go so heavy on the Urban and late 60s, where she really should be starting from Disco forward.

It was thought that CKG would JILL when Howard went to the bird, so CBS would have both sides (males and females) covered in the demos. But as we seen that did not happen.

As someone else said here, from what I have been hearing myself, it is buzzing that Guy and company will be using this as a test here to mold and grow the format.

As far as losing the "love" moniker, it is a fine line of deciding if you are losing heritage or name brand status. On the other hand, it is a show of failure taking it on in the 1st place. In this case, IMHO, it does not fit this format, there was not much invested in it and is better retired and a new one used to tell their audience, there is a new offering. **** Great case study, WZZN and the "Zone" moniker. If they had ditched the absued "Zone" moniker that endured 3 format changes and a million tweaks, and relaunched with a new one, things could have went different and it might still be here today. <P ID="signature">______________

I disagree with all of you. If the format is executed correctly, then this is a great move for WILV. I might have abandoned the name - and changed the imaging. The format has legs - it still works today in San Diego, Fresno, and Cincinnati. Jacor didn't like the format and threw it away when they bought AMFM. When "Jammin' 105" abandoned the format in NYC, it was No. 4 25-54.

It's all about execution. I have huge respect for Guy and Mark and think this format has potential...

I like this format as well. Just put 2 and 2 together, and found out that Guy Zapoleon is the dude who covers the new Rhythm and Gold format, from the creators of Jack FM. Interesting I must say, it looks like this may be what he is trying to execute. I think it will work too.<P ID="signature">______________

Wore out on 103.5. Numbers peaked in the 3s (12+) but fell into the current 2s.

Never took off on 103.9

Never took off on WJMR Milwaukee (so they went Urban AC and now its in 4s)

Judging by this, and the fact that Love currently has a tight playlist (gotta love Al B Sure! and Dan Hartman) I have my reasonable doubts.

But I'm not going to make any official predictions. Let the ratings do the talking.

If 100.3 could get a 2.5-3.0 share with good demos, Bonneville will be doing cartwheels...

If done correctly, it can.

If they get air personalities that fit and dump the love they'll be right where The Beat was and there won't be a GCI or NUA to fight with. You really need to take your personal tastes out of things if you're to offer thoughts on what NICHED is. Get real, EVERY FORMAT IS A NICE, stop with the old buzz words;

Wow, jump from the highest building you can, suicide on the air. We ain't in Albany. If you'd love to see it, why not just buy the songs and play them for yourself, we don't need to be subjected to it, it's too "niched". LOL

That's what I say, but I think it is a good alternative to V-103. I think Elroy Smith needs to start looking over his shoulder.
