If YOU (rkchgo) don't like the music, that's your business. You don't have to attack others that do and want to hear more of it on the airwaves. Don't give these BS excuses on why House Music shouldn't be played on the radio. This is CHICAGO, one of the world's best House cities and if you don't like it maybe you need to move!!!!
[EDIT]
Anyway, there is a reason why the same old songs get played over and over on the radio. It's because the stations that do...........people listen to! They get the biggest ratings! Classic rock stations haven't added new songs in decades yet they consistently do well across the country. Surprisingly people like to listen to music they know What a concept!
Opinions are like a**holes. Everyone's got one. You say house music can work...there is an audience. Who is the "They?" You and your friends? You and the 50 other people at the club last weekend?
I say it can't. Not enough money. Believe me when I say that broadcasters through and through are all about the money. IF there was ANY possibility dance/house music could work on a traditional over-the-air FM station it would be done.
Wait. It was done. Oh, right. B96 gave it up. Oh, and Energy's owner went under.
Radio is a BROADCAST medium seeking MASS MARKET appeal. This means that you try and please the most amount of people that you can with what you've got. You can either super-serve a very small group of people or broadly serve a mass audience. That's why mass-appeal formats like AC, Classic Rock, and Country are so prevailent in this country. They're familiar. They're low-risk.
If I remember right a good portion of Energy's clients were dance clubs and bars. Anyone who has ever done radio sales knows those two catagories are darn near the worst. They have little money to spend and half the time don't pay their bills anyway. That's if they even stay in business long enough to pay the bills...
Radio is a business...you go with low risk. Classic Rock is a low-risk. Dance is high-risk. Those who have done dance have failed. You're more likely to succeed with a bland AC or being the 5th urban station in town than to do something a niched as Dance. It's just plain business.
You think I'm wrong? Buy yourself a radio station and try it for yourself. When you're actually looking at the spreadsheets it's a whole different ballgame. Prove me wrong.
