Really enjoying listening to Q105. Nice job. Instread of "blowing it up" and becoming the "New something or another" they simply went back to basics of Top 40 Drake radio. Smoke out of the top of the hour. Backload stop sets starting at :50. Energy and up tempo music and jocks. When they do drop in a slow song it "grabs" the listener. Great image liners and jingles. The presentation is always moving forward and is slick. True to the core with an abundance of Motown, Stones, Beatles, etc. Makes other stations sound stodgy (is that a word?) and tired. See, you can do "more music, less talk" and not sound stilted. So far, so good!

Well, let's compare another station for a moment. Let's take Nancy Alexander (big local personality) teamed with another big local personality, Mike Reeves. Both doing a morning show years ago and you would think, there were kicking butt, but it was not true.

Kristy and Chad (a husband-wife couple) ... she was a data entry clerk in radio working in traffic dept and he was a part timer doing evenings/weekends.

You've seen the books and in many occasions they beat MIX 100.7 who claims having the "big personalities".

Nancy Alexander, still a big local personality with lots of fans, has had several co-hosts since she started with Mix and I assure you that payroll is bigger than the other couple on WWRM Morning Show. Why a big payroll when someone else for less is beating them?

Same thing over at Q105. Jojo Walker, Bill Connolly paid to laugh in the mornings. Let's get real.

So, I guess the Tampa market really doesn't care about the big local personalities any longer. All they want is good music.

Well said. I think, at least in my experience folks are listening for music and they're listening for someone who they can relate to. It's nearly impossible to relate to Nancy Alexander unless you're a drunk bi*ch who no one likes.

The same goes for The former Q morning show, and for Mason. Everyone sees right through his charade and realizes he's a wanna be celebrity who is breathing his last breath. Look at the success of folks like Fisher and Boy, Orlando and his crew at Wild, Bubba and the likes. People can relate to those folks and that's why people listen to their shows.

I know that there are some bitter folks out there but the reality is simple...Q decided to go in another direction. You can cry and complain about it all you want. If it doesn't work then in the end it doesn't work and they'll probably move on again. This is after all radio and that is how things work in radio (of course it'll take them a few years to admit it doesn't work). Get over it...and continue on your job hunt.

If you think for an istant that JoJo Walker and Bill Connolly were just paid to laugh, then you my friend have NEVER worked a morning show in your life. You must be one of the "Would have loved to or never has". There are many elements that go into a morning show, and let me tell you, it's allot harder to be funny doing it clean than it is doing it dirty like Bubba and MJ. We ran a clean fun family morning show. So perhaps you need to walk a mile or so in those shoes before you pass jugdement on any morning show. I know first hand what goes into it and we were not paid to laugh. You must just be a never has been to have said something like that. If we were paid to laugh as you say, how did we stay in this market for 25 years on the air?? How did we get an 18 share in the 80's at Q105, How did we beat the ever loving shit out of MJ & BJ while at MIX96 and how did we in the last trend come in #6 25-54, and #3 35-64 ans #5 12plus playing 60's and 70's music, oh and as you put it paid to laugh. Maybe it's you that need to get real before you start shotting off your mouth about nothing that you know about. I'll bet, you've never been in radio and only seen one on tour or checking out a web cam. I on th other hand have 32 years in this business that I love dearly. It's the only thing that I know how to do. So next time, think long and hard before you put someone down that you don't even know!

i grew up listening to the music the Q plays and i have kids that would rather listen to the music of my era than what their peers listen too. One of my kids asked for Three Dog Night's Greatest hits for his birthday. When i take them to school we listened to the Q morning show because it was the safest and i would say the kids liked it more when it was just bill and jojo and mason was on vacation. I thought it was more entertaining too. That's my two cents, i hate to see people lose their jobs, it's so tough out there nowadays, but that is the nature of the radio business isn't it? new boss comes in and brings his guys.

i hope to hear them on the dial again.

To Musicman..."Thank You for the kind words" Bill and myself worked very hard to make Q105 a safe haven for families and kids a like, I to hope to be back on the air soon. What was done to us was just wrong! Fireing us less than a week before Christmas...what, they couldn't wait a week. My wife crys herself to sleep each night even though I have told her it will all work out. I really believe that when God closes one door, he opens another...I just have to find that door. I don't mind getting fired for something I did, but just to get fired so that the new PD Scott Walker can put his mark on the station is a bit hard to swallow. Bill and JoJo will turn up and when we do, we again will do the fanily friendly show that so many Tampa bay listeners have come to know and love. You might want to check out www.tampabay.com . Just type in Mason Dixon and it has the story of all 4 of us being fired, plus there is a blog that is 17 pages long that shows how up set the people of Tampa bay are about our fireing.

The original post was by no means a slight to those no longer at the station. Having been through too many of those purges myself, it isn't a pleasant experience, however, usually better opportunities came along as a result. The new energy, tempo, and formatrics of the station caught my ear along with some of the nostalgia of "Drake-like" programming.

I don't at all love "it." (The new format). I have tried to give it a listen on the way home, as well as on weekends. I even called "Tom Kent" on New Year's Eve ... and couldn't get the guy to tell me where he was located. He kept saying "I'm right here," and I'd say "where?" and he kept saying "right here." I don't like the new jocks and I take great offense to the new "JOJO." There will always be only one JoJo and it isn't that uber hyper, yelling guy who thinks he is funny but isn't. They seem to think that yelling all of their breaks infers energy and enthusiasm ... I find it annoying. I also find it unnerving that a station was dismantled in the interests of what would make the listeners "happier," yet they don't seem to know the listener at all. And, they aren't interesting in taking our phone calls either so that we may voice our opinions directly. Good Luck Bill, JoJo and gang ... hope to see/hear you again soon!

I was a witness to that hard work! I remember the days of Mark Haze running thru the halls, JoJo answering the crazy phones calls and managing guests, Bill's phenomenal promos. Remember the one for Mini Cooper? Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Polka Dotted Mini Cooper. It was awesome! They did much more than just laugh at/ with Mason. The listeners loved "the group" morning show. When it flipped from U92 and became Oldies 104.7 and then Q105... they also became #2 Women 25-54!

My name is Orlando and I suffer from being dirty as #@%! Listen, every show, that is successful, has serious stars who are in the wings, making the overall goals get achieved. If it were left to myself, Bubba, Chris/Seth, Mason OR The Midget, to do the same shows ALONE, Tampa radio would sound like Gainesville. Gordie switches, when the PD has to go away, and The Freakshow continues on course. Mason can't be there, the show still presents itself with the same direction and doesn't lose a step. It was a team. Many of the winning shows are comprised of teams. Some of you clearly don't realize that.

Mason will do well, with the new direction, because he's a point guard that has been switch to the shooter. From his new position, he sees, the play develop, with the orchestrator's eyes. Scott is bringing something refreshing to the market. You can only swim in Tampa's remixed and retouched format stew, for so long, before someone has to move in and hit ctrl+alt+delete. Jojo and Bill were a huge part of the show's presentation and I watched how their perfomance made Mason more available to be Mason. There's a new direction, however Jojo and Bill WILL be on the air. There are a lot of terrible air personalities in Tampa. I can identify those that share my own sucky qualities.

This is in now way a cease & desist, for the stupidity that peppers this site, but it is a view from my side of the world. Don't worry if you don't recognize my name or station references, we don't play much from the 60's-70's or80's and we didn't come from 4002 Gandy. No worries. Scary, I know.

I'm going back to surfing for naked photographs of Mariska Hargitay. Looooooove her! Wait, you geezers may know who her mom was, and what Earth shattering event, took her mom's life, while she slept a few inches away. Wow, how does the hip hoppy, Black guy KNOW this stuff? I may just fit in here, after all!!!!

"UAT"-- Never worked with you, never met you, and know little about you. But while I admire your passion and belief in yourself, to say that radio is the only thing you know how to do is almost certainly not true. You and a lot of others are out of work for reasons that are both beyond your control, and not about to change any time soon. Sadly, that's just the way it is.

If you're lucky enough to get another radio gig, great-- and I sincerely hope you do. But the world is-a-changing my friend, and that means you may have to change with it. Keep an open mind, and do what you have to do to live a happy and healthy life. There is a lot more to it than just radio.
