lovell dyett=unlistenable

it seems like every other day there are posts that pop up here criticizing finneran, mustard&johnson and eddie andleman. but i dont recall any threads about dyett.

i almost never listen....for good reason. i listened last night, due to the lack of anything else on...memphis vs. tennessee basketball doesnt float my boat, and the glenn beck radio show, combined with the ashley judd psas make me want to jab knitting needles in my ear.

anyway, back to dyett. why is on the radio? why is he on a big time station like wbz. it is a painful experience listening to him. truly painful. i wish i had a nickel for everytime he coughs or clears his throat on-air. he doesnt have a good conversation style. he doesnt interact well with callers.

im baffled. why is he on the air?

If you had stayed tuned through the last five minutes of the program, you would have heard a guest read a poem by Richard Wright, author of "Black Boy," which I believe was a novel that was quite popular with readers of all races in the '40s. I remember seeing the book on my father's bookshelf and wondering about it. The poetry reading was flawless and the poem is extremely moving and powerful. Really compelling radio! No, it wasn't Dyatt who read the poem aloud, but it WAS he who arranged to interview the gentleman who read it. So you may be a bit too quick with your criticsm.

Because he has been for over 30 years, and his listenership is high in the African-American community.

News flash: People cough and clear their throats. Robots don't. It's refreshing that he doesn't use a cough button. It makes him more human.

I would bet it has something to do with the associated paperwork you need to send with your license renewal..

Well, you would lose that bet. One African-American more or less is not going to cause WBZ's license not to be renewed. EEO rules are designed to pinpoint patterns of discrimination, not head-counts. Further, that report is filed once per year, not once every eight years.

of course it is human.

doesnt make it any less gross and repulsive.

What percentage of Eastern MA's population is African/American?

Less than 10%?

I suspect that he's on for the same reasons so many other local mediocrities are on--Boston tends to be very slow on the change thing.

Lovell is a stealth host. He's present, but not really there. Things go on around him that he's oblivious to. Does he live in Ma: he makes it sound like he takes a train from DC?
I think he has a for-life job, which is a rarity these days. And no, he isn't as bad as Andelman.

I don't see why more announcers don't use the "cough button", or why more DJ's who run their own board don't pot their mic down or shut it off for a moment if they must cough.

A moment of dead air is far preferable than coughing on the air, in my opinion.

If you're looking for unlistenable son, you need to start with that Jimmy "Thanks for Giving Me the Job" Severino or Michael "Gargles with Sand" Graham. These 2 [EDIT] make Duane Glasscock sound like Dan Shorr.
