Low Power FM

I notice that a low power FM station is broadcasting at 107.1 in Port Arthur. It is an interesting station - I'm not sure how long it will last.

Which brings up the question, how many low power FMs are there in the Houston area?

107.1 in PA is KSAP-LP..its been on for 5-6 months. Runs totally on donations (well probably also cash from the owner)...xmtr is at Pioneer Park next to St Mary's Hospital in PA...the antenna (a single bay) is on the water tower. Luckily it does not trash 106.9 unless you are almost right next to their xmtr; I do know they have some signal into Orange and the state line in I10 but doesnt cover ALL of Port Arthur with city grade (especially the north edge where things are moving to)...The only other LPs in the Houston area are 105.3 KORG in Cleveland (its call sounds more like it should be in Orange TX!) which is right on 59 in town, and 107.9 KQLC-LP in Brookshire....their coverage barely touches XO's signal on the west end...There is a 102.5 in Huntsville if you want to include that in the Houston area.

KDOL 96.1 Livingston 32 Watts range only 10miles or so really crappy KAGG 96.1 Bryan 40kw when the conditions are right kills KDOL. How did KDOL get a license beats me I bet people in Livingston with a good antenna & tuner can get KAGG over KDOL all the time<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah I knew about KDOL and forgot to include them (but then they arent and dont cover the "Houston area" :) They are outside the 1mV contour and thus were eligible...I have heard them many times driving thru Livingston...but yes, they do get clobbered...and may have to end up going away...96.1 KYKZ out of Lake Charles has filed to move to the middle of the BPT area and relicense to Sour Lake...if that happens, KDOL will have to go bye bye..due to too close in spacing.

Have you ever heard KDLP 104.7 in Ace? SE and E Texas was part of my installation territory up into Nacogdoches. That is why I am still interested in BPT radio. I have to admit I had never even heard of Ace, but KDLP-LP shows up in the Houston-Galveston MSA list of stations. Ace is on/near Hwy 146 and FM 2610 in Polk County nearly at the San Jacinto County line. Tree Monkey Road is the road into town and the street names are; Bobby Bare, Roger Miller, Charlie Pride, Carl Smith, Kitty Wells, Dale Evans amoung a few others. KDLP is listed as Classic Country, no sshit. You might be able to get a bit of KDLP if you are on US59 a little north of the Shepard area. The low power stations listed in the H-G MSA/DMA are KDLP-LP 104.7 Ace; KDOL-LP 96.1 Livingston; KORG-LP 105.3 Cleveland {got the calls from Operation Reguge Gives} but you are right the calls sound like they should be in Orange, TX or Orange Co, CA; KPIA-LP 102.5 Huntsville; and KQLC-LP 107.9 in Brookshire, the closest of the bunch to Houston. Most of the stations have web sites and streaming or screaming audio.
