And the same intro/close as in 1989-90, when I was at KOTN.

Lowell sounded very sedate (by comparison) in those '95 reports. Somewhere I have a couple of reports on a KOTN aircheck or two. I know where that box is, so if there's any interest I'll dig through it and post them on my site.

LOL. I got my daughter laughing the other day when I pretended to play the harmonica along with the intro.
 
We just last week overhauled one of our country properties to replace imaging that was up to 5 years old. By that, I mean we had last overhauled 5 years ago with a new voice guy, and he did stuff for us until recently. We got a new voice guy ... but we opted to keep the intros to news because they're very recognizable for that particular program. That particular program is a morning news block that's been on the air for over 50 years - and the news intro is about 10 years old but still sounds fresh.

I know the second I hear the harmonica that it's time for ag markets. I make the "Point" joke because Eric Brown's recognizable voice is on a non-Citadel station every morning. So, what's the answer?

Oh, gotcha. I don't know from The Point; the only local station I used to listen to was 1380 when I discovered they had Air America, and then they went to ESPN so that ended that. I'm gonna say the introes to ARN farm reports sound perfectly fine and there's no need to change them. Complaining that a farm show sounds hokey is the sort of thing that provokes guffaws.
 
Media Mogul...I'm not sure if the book is still available, but Ray Poindexter wrote "Arkansas Airwaves", copyright 1974, that is a very interesting read on Arkansas radio beginning back in 1922 to 1974. A lot of Arkansas radio history over those years.

And "Russell", I'm a little slow about things, but I think I get your "If there's interest...", and I'd be very interested to hear more airchecks of Lowell Ruffcorn. Please bring 'em on!
 
Sammy: I'm a bit slow about things myself (lots going on right now), but I do have the box o' tapes close by -- I'll try and get those online real soon. There are three casts in their entirety from 01/31/1990 - my last day on KOTN (which I rolled unscoped). And here and there I might have a couple more from the 1989 frame. We shall see.

I attribute part of my radio upbringing to Lowell Ruffcorn. Back in the mid 80s I was the Ops Manager for
the Arkansas Radio Network, which meant I was feeding farm reports to affiliates at 4:30 in the morning. And Lowell was an everyday part of my world in those days. He was truly a radio charactor that I'll never forget.
I wonder if they drive old Thunderbirds in heaven.

The people who would most likely know are either Neal Gladner who is now at US 97 in Hot Springs, or Pat Lynch. ([email protected])

They were around for the heritage KARN/Arkansas Radio Network days.
